Anyone is saying that solo play is still fun has not tried it in the new update. It has become unplayable with the new change. You see everyone who has tried it in the new update is posting about it
Logging is more fun now. Some items have moved into the logging skill from the carpentry. You can now do much more as a logger but still no specialization for level 6 which is kind of pathetic after all these years. You still have to go around chopping debris and stumps while miners sweep the floor.
Carpentry is much harder to level up now and is a bottleneck when it comes to the BU3-upgrades. We had Engineers at level 7 days before our first carpenter could make bu3. And the fact that they need the oil to make lumber is just another bottleneck in the logistics.
Basic engineering is mostliy like before the v10 with one surprise. On our server engineers had a ton of problems finding fabric (linen) for the windmills, preventing both power generation and development. More on this later.
Tailors were in for a big surprise and grew tired and left in a constant stream due to the fact that they could do pretty much nothing at all. Carpenters could do tailoring tables, logger did the new machine to clean flax. Looms could not be made because they need stuff from the tailors. Flax had to be farmed and processed by gatherer/farmer and thats where the main bottle neck was. Farmers did farm, but not very much flax. Took days to get the reserach books for mech/pottery/glass done - and thanks to really good people they weren't hoarded.
Smelters have an easier time in this version. The cost to make iron stuff is pretty much halved so it seems there is an intention to cater for the people going the traditional miner->smelter->mech - as if they already didn't have the most easy moneymaking path.
What's more. Research is a p.i.t.a. since you now need to actually have level 1 in a skill do research in a subject. As a miner you can reserach masonry, but to do adv masonry you need to be a mason. This holds back development alot and on a very well crowded server this might be fun and desirable, but on a smaller server its a neither fun or desirable.
Anyhow, this is just my first impressions from 5-6 days of playing.
