Language does not work properly
Hello,

I would like to play the game in English because the German translation is not quite finished yet and this leads to confusing and incomprehensible sentences especially in the government staff.

When I change the language from German to English and restart the game, some of the texts are still in German. For example in the government staff or in the explanation for the experience points.

How do I get the game completely in English?

Best regards

Eco uses language on client and on the server, e.g. the two can have differing languages which means that the server displays server-side stuff in the language that was configured for it. You can change the language for the server in /steamapps/common/Eco/Eco_Data/Server/Configs/Localization.eco, just enter "German". If you're not the admin, you would need to ask the admin of the server if he is willing to do that.

So the only way is to ask a admin to change a "whole server" setting? We all know what is going to happen : other people on the server that had no problem will have a problem?
We might argue that this is "normal" behaviour while the whole internet is full of games that don't have this kind "problem" and there have been numerous reasons in all kind of games for keeping your client in english while playing on a french, german, or whatever language the server language setting might be set to. The main reason is poor translation and with poor I mean translation that is often done by people that use a language in a "perfect" way that putting the translated parts together makes no sense anymore or make your eyes bleed (very true for french translations).
Now from a coding point of vue it seems like developers blantantly chose to send full text up and down the internet instead of much shorter references text ids thus creating lots of overhead. If that is not the case than it's a game bug and it's choosing the local client strings in a wrong language.

Yes, server language and client language is different, that also enables you to add modifications server side with localization and change the name of recipes and basically anything server-side with simple measures. Things that are fully configurable / changeable / deletable on the server are served via it, not the client. It is nowhere an optimal implementation and that wasn't claimed anywhere either, but it does work as it was developed and is not a bug. It has advantages and disadvantages on many levels and we'll surely look into that again in the future, but for now it is working correctly.
