Blast furnace 0.8.0.3: how to use, also water pump

Hello-
I was away for about a year. Blast furnaces and their operation has gotten more complex. I have crafted a blast furnace, now I am trying to figure out how to get it operational. It would be nice if the wiki entry could be updated for 0.8.0.3.

It used to be that you only needed pipes for air exhaust. Now I understand that you need to bring in water, and you create sewage.

How do you bring in water? I assume you use the water pump and pipes. I have tried placing the water pump and/or pipes next to the ocean, and I get the message "not connected to water source," so I guess I am not understanding what to do.

The sewage needs to be filtered, right? I looked at the recipe for the waste filter, and steel is required.

How do you produce steel if you don't have an operational blast furnace? Is it OK to pump raw sewage into the ocean for a while until you have the needed steel?

Maybe you have connected the wrong connection of the water pump with the ocean.

Need mechanical power for the pump(s) and got to let the water flow down the pipes to the furnace. If water is flowing it will actually flow out water. Same with sewage. Might want a ditch for it.

Ah, yes, the pump was backward. I'll place a windmill nearby, dig a ditch for the sewage...this just might work. Thanks.
