Aqueducts use for water pipes not farming
I recently made an aqueduct from a fresh water lake to where I had a water pump. The aqueduct was 3 wide and 2 tall, allowing a single block of water to flow. The water flowed over a long distance (and vertically through waterfalls) until it reached the destination, but when I put the pipe into the water, the water pump did not recognize it as a water source. I made the end of the aqueduct 2 deep and 2 wide, but no change.

I took the water pump and place it at several locations along the aqueduct with no luck. Only when I had the pipe in the actual lake, did the pump recognize it as a water source.

Am I doing something incorrect, or do aqueducts only work for farming applications? I am asking because I started a new game and I wanted my smelting operation to be underground and did not want to have a pipe 100 or so tiles long.

thanks.

If you place the pipe in a hole where the aqueduct dumps water it should work. Basically let the water flow off the aqueduct and pump there.
