Butchery Catch 22?

You need to unlock butchery to get fat. You need fat to fry vegetables to create the butchery skill. Am I missing something? Is there another way to get raw meat and render fat?

You can render fat in the campfire, but you need the right meat. (Turtles give it.)

Hunting is almost always my first skill then food is no longer an issue.
After that its much easier to boost your food experience points.

Ah yes, I missed the icon for tallow as an output of some of the recipes, my bad. Thanks for the responses.
