Dirt Roads on Sand

I am having issues building Dirt Roads using a Stone Road Tool on Desert Sand. I am unable to use the tool on the Sand tile, and therefore I need to dig it up and place it back down to convert it from Sand to Dirt. After that is done, the tool can then be used to create a dirt road.

Problem I'm experiencing is that after 5 minutes the Desert Biome turns dirt tiles into sand and therefore destroying the Dirt Road that was built on top of it. Has anyone found a fix to this issue?

I am fairly certain it is intended. This is to make deserts a less easy place to live, as they were a bit overpowered in the prior version.

This is intended. In the desert you can only build dirt roads on trampled ground and you need keep the ground trampled for them to stay. This gets harder the bigger the road is.
