Linking stockpiles and chests

Is there a way to link a whole chain of stockpiles and or chests so that what I have at my house can be used at a great distance by placing stockpiles or chests every xx distance so that they all hook up?

It worked at first when they launched on steam but since then it hasn't worked that way. Unsure if it's an update or a bug.

You can daisy chain them, but you still have to manually move the item along the chain. Would make for better logistics if the item could be accessed by a work station if it's in the chain, despite of its relative location.

That's what I thought would happen if I put them in a chain, My carpentry bench could access items in the first stockpile I layed down as long as they all connected through the chain.

Bummer to find out that's not possible at the moment as I do find manually moving resources to be an extreme tedious action in an otherwise enjoyable game.

Perhaps they'll add some machinery in the future that will work sort of like the mod for MC where all your inventories can be linked together through pipes of one sort or another.

I agree, but at least it's a better alternative than having to carry item 'X' twelve at a time from point a to point b "X" amount of times lol

what about elevators, or using dedicated roads and trucks between them?

I played one server previously that had a pipe mod installed, it allowed for transporting items between stockpiles/chests. It even had two versions, one for mechanical power and the other electrical. It was added in as an additional Engineer skill.
