How the hell does one start a game?

Hi guys !!

So I bought this game today..I bought it to play singleplayer - so when launching the game I click on "New", I put in a name and click start. Then it loads a bit, and when it says "Entering World", the game closes, but it still says "running" in my steam library. When I look in Task Manager, it only says there is some sort of server running for this game. So I closed that task.

I went into the game's files, I put the game's compatibility mode on Win 7, and then I run it in Admin mode. At this point it asked me to put in my Strange Loop Account details - so I created one, linked it to my Steam account and then tried it again. Same story with it "crashing" when launching through Steam, then I launched it again from the games files in Admin mode, I then managed to succesfully create a server, but it gets stuck on a little popup in the game with a little "gear" icon in the middle. I then tried to launch the game AGAIN through Steam while this other game version of the game is still open, still nothing.

I then figured out that I need to launch the game through Steam, setup the server and allow the game to close itself, leaving the server task open in task manager, then I need to launch the game via the game files, then I can succesfully launch that same server I created.

Now my question - is this honestly the way everyone launches this game? Is it litterally impossible just to click on a singleplayer button and start a singleplayer map like every other game out there? Or is there something huge I am missing?

I don't mean to sound like a ♥♥♥♥ - but I have to admit I am a little frustrated at the moment. Also, please don't suggest I need to go and play multiplayer, games like these I enjoy playing on my own at my own pace. I leave multiplayer for my FPS games :-)

Oh. My. God. THANK YOU. After playing 25 hours and then coming back to the recent patches and not being able to play it was doing my head in, but you cracked it (in my case).

You shouldn't need an external account to run the game via steam .. i would sugest doing a file verification check before doing anything else cause it seems as if you're missing a file or two.

Yeah I donno - I verified the files, it continously says 2 files failed to verify and will be reaquired - allthough it doesn't seem like this helps at all, because I still have the same problem. Even after a fresh reinstall do I have the same problem.

Reading through the reviews and some other discussions, I noticed that this is not how it was..it seems like a recent patch messed everything up.

I will wait for a patch to hopefully fix this, but if it doesn't happen within the remaining 2 weeks while I am still in my refund window - I'm gonna have to refund. I'm not really interested in playing a game where I need such drastic workarounds to play it - I might buy it in the future to see if it is fixed.

It is a shame though - I bought 7 games on the Summer Sale, and I bought this as well even though it wasn't on special, that is how awesome this game looks to me and how eager I was to try it out :-/

after verify 180 missing each time ???

Check if your virus scanner is quarentining the files in question. If so add them to exceptions and reverify. This has happened to me on other games.

No I again completely uninstalled the entire game - reinstalled it with my antivirus deactivated and launched it with it deactivated - still the same problem :-/ I verify the game files with it deactivated as well as also no difference

So I found an easier temp fix than my original post. I just reverted back to patch 7.4.7, and boom - I can start a game with no issues. Hopefully a new update fixes the issue. :-)

how did u revert back? i can't start any game now with latest update, just crashes when loading

Go to your library, right click on Eco, then Properties > Betas > Then click the dropdown menu where it says "Select the beta you want to opt into", then choose version 7.4.7

its not a patch lol..its if your selecting mp on your pc then its starts a server on your PC when you create game and it closes after its finished. to fix it ctrl+alt+del then close EcoServer in the list then enter game & Load it and boom you are fine.

What happens is EcoServer does not close with the game and acts as if the actual games runing.

if you do SP with no MP option then it does not do it it seems...

this seem a bit of a flaw.

I can promise you that I have tried that solution plenty of times, with my anti virus on and off, and I always got the same result - it never worked. The only 2 ways I could ever play was the way I explained in my original post, and then the revert option.
