You need either a fishing rod or a fish trap. Do you have it? If not then you need to build a fishing table which require to unlock the proper skill poibts in the hunting tree.

Ok when you have a rod, use the map to find a spot with lot of fishes. Usually, the sea is the best place. To throw line further, i think you just hold the left click awhile before releasing. But wait long enough for better results. Then wait. Eventually, you ll see a fish biting. Just left click to bring it back. I don't think we can use baits so it's just random the biting. You must be patient. I didn't find much info about it and that's how i did it myself but if someone with more knowledge comes around, would appreciate the advices :P

Just the biting takes forever sometime. Leaving a trap seemed a more reliable way to catch something on a more consistent basis lol

It's all about time management and calories burnt but I have to agree. Some very well placed traps at the bottom of the sea almost guarantees a daily catch and if you check them once a day ( I usually check them in the AM) you get the rest of your day to explore whatever you want with enough fish to eat and sell :D

sadly when you open the trap it ignores the key input, it takes a bit getting use too.

just pick the trap up with your hammer, fish go in the inventory slots, and the now empty
trap... then just put trap back down, go home cook fish

With a rod you hold LMB throw out the line, watch the float, when it dips (catch aka) hold LMB and dont let go of the button until the hooked fish shows in your blank inventory slots

no if thats not happening for you cpt, then bug report

leave loads of traps out in ocean for ages and all four slots in each will fill up with the different types, fetched one home 60+ fish in one trap (after cooking with research boost)

BTW, Fish trap shows as icon on mini map, so cant lose em (i also mark em with a marker as well, but thats me, i mark everything with a marker lol
