Carpentry table not working

when i try to craft something like a door, it will start but the timer will not go down. what am I doing wrong?

Many of the crafting tables require rooms: check the status tab of the world object and see if its enabled or not.

are open windows and doorway allowed? and does the floor have to be intact with no holes?

Floor does not matter, can be Dirt, open Doorways(1x2) and Windows(2x1) are ok

Yea. You'll need an enclosed space with no holes in the roof. You can have 2 block spaces in the wall as well for windows or doors.
