You can grind foodplants and sold them for building material, if there's any chef need raw.
People like to hoard everything for later, just like in real life :) sometimes you only need a little of something to move forward in the game, and yes you can get stuck in a cycle of need-to-build-a-stockpile-to-hold-all-the-stuff-I-dug-out-to-make-room-for-a-stockpile.
Remember that Eco is still in early access will go thru a few more game balances before final release.
If you feel you're life is so short, a bit of a grind will waste precious time, i would then also suggest not wasting time by playing games at all, and enjoy you're life for the fullest.
Go places, See places and do things, but please, let me deside how to waste my time and life, i dont need a stranger telling me i shoudn't waste my life on grinding if i enjoy it.
I am satisfied with the grind...
