How is the grind?
I decided a while ago that I would never again smack trees and rocks for hours on end. Nobody has time for that in such a short life. How is the grind in this game?

well you smack trees with an axe axe breaks you fix it with stone you collected by smacking it with a pick axe. its like minecraft but more tedious as it takes alot to build a motar home. to me in this week of playing this game not counting the loss of progression due to updates. you get a very limited amount of skill points to spend per real day on a skill tree that severly limits what you can do so if you plan to go solo it will be a long grind and much waiting.

yea that skill tree progression gets right up my nose

The skill tree progration depends on the server setting and on servers you have usally skill speciallisations with jobs and contracts

Yep, that whats specializations for.
You can grind foodplants and sold them for building material, if there's any chef need raw.

The grind is insane in this game. Do not buy it if you feel this way.

The grind CAN be insane if you let it. My first play thru I had 12 stockpiles, this one so far I have only one...
People like to hoard everything for later, just like in real life :) sometimes you only need a little of something to move forward in the game, and yes you can get stuck in a cycle of need-to-build-a-stockpile-to-hold-all-the-stuff-I-dug-out-to-make-room-for-a-stockpile.
Remember that Eco is still in early access will go thru a few more game balances before final release.

If you feel you're life is so short, a bit of a grind will waste precious time, i would then also suggest not wasting time by playing games at all, and enjoy you're life for the fullest.
Go places, See places and do things, but please, let me deside how to waste my time and life, i dont need a stranger telling me i shoudn't waste my life on grinding if i enjoy it.

To grind is to achieve. To achieve is satisfying.

I am satisfied with the grind...

Be wary when the grind is real and the achievement is illusory.
