Building a house
How you go about doing this?

The logs from the old website version are different then the Steam version and I can't find out how to begin building a home.

The logs don't stack to form a wall or anything like the website version did.

Yes, I am trying to figure it out as well. I know you have to use hewn logs. They then stack. Seems you can create either a roof or floor every 4 levels of logs. But you have to be 2 above the level before it will work. (at 6 levels of logs you can begin a second floor at the 4th level of logs.) Takes a ton of wood.

*hint* if you use a carpentry table to hew the logs and have enough skill in hewn logs you'll get more than 1 hewn log from every regular log.

Also, are you using a hammer to place the floor/walls/roof?

im struggle here too...

how do i put a roof on this:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1293766486

when i have some "hewn log" and hammer active from the build selection menu there is a apex roof option, but says to make i need x,y,z but those require workstations that require a room in the first place, and i cant make the room because i cant make the roof sections...

I tired to make a roof using the wall sections, but that creates a cross section with hole in it !!

what gives ?

I'm not sure what that picture is meant to show but I usually don't leave open spaces like you have in the walls. I assume you are going to put windows there but it is easier (for me) to place all solid walls down first, put up the roof, then use the hammer to hammer out the spots you want windows. When you hammer a spot you get the piece back. As for the roof. I just hold some hewn logs, select the hammer, hold shift and mouse wheel down to the roof option. I found it easier to put up the first border of the roof by standing on the wall and looking down.

Yeah, I realize I was using the axe to place the hewn logs instead of the hammer.

my roof option is unselectable, i can only select the top two icons from the build menu...
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1293782534

it requires hew construction lv.2, which requires wood construction, which requires a book from the research table, which must be kept in a room....

which is the problem, because it doesnt count the picture above as a room without a roof, which is unselectable and unresearchable unless im missing something in the prerequisites

Hey there-- sorry for the confusion. Figuring out how to educate people on how to use the Hammer for making buildings (and of course making it easier and clearer to actually use) is a challenge we will certainly be working hard on. Rooms do not require their roofs to be constructed from roof blocks-- they just need to be enclosed. Roof blocks are basically an aesthetic way to improve the look of your buildings right now.

I would recommend using the Floor form for your roofs to start, since they cover the whole block space nicely. The idea there is that if you cover your walls with a layer of floor you could then easily make a second level for your building, or later improve the looks of it by adding a roof on top of that or converting what is there into Roof blocks.

You never are required to use the Roof forms to create fully usable Rooms-- Walls and Floor forms should be all you need to make functional buildings.

so the first option with the hammer is floor and second is wall but is the floor suppose to appear on the other side of the wall?

I figured the wall would snap to the edge of the floor hiding the end of the floor. so all you would see when walking around the house would be the wall

Yeah, it's always been that way since I've been playing.

It's been that way since at least 6.4 when I started playing.
