What's the point in fishing?
All you can get and make is charred fish...

We have ELK TACO...but not fish taco...
or...
chowder...
or fish head soup... Every time you butcher a fish you get a head and the meat (Like with the meat in the butcher. Meat + leather/Fur) .
Fried Fish. Give the cooking oil another useful purpose.

But as it stands, Fishing is literally USELESS.

Harder to farm fish into extinction compared to elk, but i was to surprised not even a fish soup, fish stock, etc...

whilst i dont completely disagree, fish is also nice fat source on day1, eaten raw or charred, and extrememly easy to stockpile alongside firewood shoots, a mixture of both these can balance each other pretty well and both in abundance.

you literally can survive on the ocean the entire game, but the fishing rod is a waste, use the trap or just pick up the urcins etc

I'm playing on a server with like 5+ people, I feed them all. Fish has almost no point now since I'm all the way into Cooking on a stove/just opened advanced cooking. You can probably survive off those things in single player, but if you're a cook on a server, it's impossible

Fish traps are too not worth it. I still have a chest full of raw fish just from one day laying fish traps that no one wants xD

see i think cooking in this game is completely over worked, there is so many different types of grub and cooking stations and you literally can just survive off the most simple of those.

honestly you can ram boiled shoots down your characters neck and not bother researching food, and building food stations, you just dont need em, heck you dont even need a commuity chef, the whole bloody server can survive without so much as a campfire lol

You obviously did not understand the effect of food in this game.
With gathered food and perfectly balanced nutrients you get ~40 SP/day maximum. With campfire food ~55, with cooked food ~65, with advanced cooking & adv. baking ~75

That's almost double SP / day from "i have enough food to survive" to "i have a skilled cook on my server"

The only thing that is currently imbalanced is that "Cooking" lacks a fat food and that baking is not worth it until you have adv.cooking & adv baking (and therefor access to factory)

no i dont misunderstand that aspect, its just not so much of a big ordeal on singleplayer settings, now if you playing a server with very harsh settings then of course your going to want to aim for a balance diet.

perhaps i should have been more clear about that, but then again i was under the impression i have mention SPmode enough already ;)

in any case, its really overworked in my view, theres more than enough by a country mile recipe wise dont ya think ?

half the people i bet are just eating that stew thing...

I'm actually on a harsh server. Up until recently (about 2 rl days) you wouldn't even get SP back when you cancelled or "deleted" a skill/Specialization. You also can't get more than 32 SP from your house a day. I am the dedicated chef other than baking because I can't afford 100SP just to open a new Specialization. I have stews, veggie meledies, ect ect. People do still buy a bunch of the charred this or that, but they also get at least 1-2 stews/mash with it. Depending on their needs.
But our SP is honestly needed. We are trying super hard to keep the animals alive, bare minimal hunting (this is where FISH would help a ton to balance out that aspect) We keep our stumps cleaned up with wood pulp and we don't like leaving felled trees either. If I'm not cooking, I'm usually wondering around cleaning underbrush of dead plants so new ones can sprout lol

I don't do single player. Basing the cooking just off your singleplayer play through is a bit unbalanced. Of course you're going to see it a bit differently.

Hopefully they will add more to do with the fish :)

If you check out mods for Eco, someone named MW in the discord makes one that adds a ton of fish recipes.

You can "survive" off anything but you won't be getting optimal skill gain if you just eat whatever.
