Rates with three people
New player here, doing a private server with two friends. Just wondering if anybody knows what a good skill gain rate we should set the server to? And are there any other settings we should play with to make it possible with just three people?

As of right now, we have 2 players and to make it interesting and keep people moving forward (without a ton of repition) I have increased the skill to 8 which is moving us along nicely.

I would cut that down to 4 if more players join though...

30 / number of players is the number recommended by the devs

Depends on how fast you want to progress. x3/x4 i would say for 2.
And you should set speciality costs to zero.

Single player is set to 24x so if you have 3 just go with 8x.
Although you could probably do fine with 4x.

Singleplayer is x24 because you don't get offline SP. Compared to a server that runs 24/7 for 3 people x8 is definitly way higher then singleplayer

clarify: are you only going to be running said "server" when you are playing or is it actually going to be running 24/7?

The server will be running 24/7

you need about 7,5k skill points to skill everything without the extra costs for specialeties i would say with 3 people in a group playstyle with abit skill overlaping you would need about 12k skills that makes around 400 daily.
so with 25 skillpoints from a house around day 15 and with a avarege food with a 1.9 balance with 24 nutrience average plus the 12 base gain you would need a skill multiplier of 2.
what you need to check is the specialtycostmultiplier i dont know how high he is on our server but i think it was 0.5 for a max cost of 250 on the 8ght and further specialtys you buy.

Hard to say how much you really need in total. There's quite some skills that you don't need at all:
- Digging, Farming, Mining is pretty senseless atm (at least if you have any spec costs)
- Fertilizers don't work at all
- Campfire (+adv) can be unlearned once you have all the cooking/baking stuff
- Cutting edge cooking: i don't know yet if it's working at all (all recipes 0 nutrients) but haven't learned it yet
- a lot of speed skills are unecessary
- Hunter: no need to max it

speed on the higher tier crafting stations makes sense when you dont plan stack then.
for example a sweet salat needs 15min and with max efficiency 10 min for the syrup and the sugar for the syrup needs another 13.33 min the salats for this salat need 4 min so its not so relevant for this process.
in the end you would need about 28.33 min when you only used one crafting station each.
so you could skill the speed or you could add extra machinery but the later would destroy your house value balance and it would need about 200m³ extra kitchen space.

but in the end the x2 skill multiplier is only a suggestion you could reduce it further or change other values (but dont plan on set up a hardcoreserver when your group dont plan on play without tolerance this would only adds stress and a game should make fun in the first place.)
i play with 3 others with the values i said before and we are on tier 3 stuff around day 12 so i would say 5-6 day further and we can destroy the meteor
