Can i create ships?

Hey i am new to the game and i am enjoying the game a lot but i now step over a problem that requeris me to get to a nother island. So i was wondering if i could create a boat somehow and if so where?

And if not what is the best way to create a bridge?

I do not believe boats have made their way in-game yet, your best option is to start with a cobbledstone bridge because with the right spec you can make more cobbledstone than stone pieces used to make it. When I built my ocean bridge, I just swam and placed blocks much like you would in Minecraft.
