Eco

Is it another Minecraft ? Why is it worth it ?
I found this game almost a year ago, just went in the steam page to notice its not released as early access yet.

Is the game being developed well ? Why should i care about the game ? It looks like another Minecraft game, so any reasons why is it so special ?

I'm just curious and interested about Eco Global Survival Game, to hear players opinions and to know if the game is for me.

Thank you for your future kind comments :)

Hi there!

The game is being developed really well. It's currently in alpha 5.5, with 5.6 being set to release on the 20th. The devs are hard at work and constantly working on the game, usually adding stuff every day. If you join the official Discord server you can see the progress in the #codestream channel (https://discord.gg/A66bzee). I think you'll find the community is a lot more active there as well, so you can get more opinions on the game :D

They're also hoping to reach Beta by the end of 2017, which means the game will also be made available on Steam! Anyone who has bought the game before that will get a Steam key, so you won't have to rebuy it, if you buy the game, you get all future updates, including alpha, beta and full release.

The special thing about Eco, for me, is the way they did the whole ecosystem. You can't cut down too many trees, you can't overhunt, you have to make sure the entire ecosystem survives and thrives to really be able to move forward. The focus isn't on building like in Minecraft. You have to work together with other players as well, to progress in one skill you might need the help of another skill, and for one player to get all the skills takes a lot of time (although with some edits to the skillpoint rate the game is entirely playable solo (you'll still need a server for that)).

There is still a lot of content missing, but at the same time, Eco is one of the most content-heavy alphas I have ever seen. On a normal server you'll easily get tens of hours of playtime out of it already now. And new content is added all the time, one of the things coming in the next patch (5.6) is a full-fledged excavator!

Hope this helps,

Magnus/MGrand3, ECO Community Moderator

I have not yet got the game, but based on what I have read, and I have done a lot of research into this game, this game is nothing like minecraft. The only similar factor may be survival. There is no 'creative' mode that I know of although there are ways to give big amounts of whatever to yourself in-game such as points. The game is based on the environment and saving the planet while you survive. There is polution, extinction of animals, and many other things. You can build technology, and many other things to survive. In the game there is also a meteor that strikes after I believe 30 days or so. You must try and protect the earth from it, while not polluting it at the same time. The game is always multiplayer, and I do not believe there is mobs like in minecraft. This game also has laws, punishments for disobeying laws, contracts, and a whole government system to protect the environment that players create in game. You can propose laws to be voted on and support it with evidence. Such as, people may onl cut 2 birch trees a day due to local forrest fire. You could show population graphs on birch tree population. That is what I have learned from part of my research about the game. I hope this may give you some idea.
40$ for a minecraft clone thats a joke

It's visually like minecraft, but has skill trees, a much richer crafting system, and a strong purpose...band together productively to save yourselves but not so as to ruin the world.

So in this regard it's a little bit more like a social experiment. Which worlds will succeed and why? I'm participating to see how this cool idea unfolds.
it used to be like next gen minecraft. im pretty sure this game would have been a great success on steam. Unfortunately in the last alpha v6 devs totaly ruined the game. They try to force players to stick to just 1 profession like cutting trees. They clearly dont want players to enjoy this game solo or in small groups. Whats more they changes sandbox into punishment simulator as you get punished pretty much for everything you do in the world. If you cut a tree you will get a ton of debris that you need to remove. You will use up all your hunger bar and have your 1st tier axe all used up. Repairing this axe would be equivalent of like 1/3 of the tree you cut.

Yes...digging for stone then hauling it out, one shovelful at a time, 8 times, in order to build one new axe, was definitely much harder than in most crafting games. It makes you really think about using what you have carefully. Which, in a way, is closer to real life than in most games...

As for the v6 update ruining things, how exactly are the devs seeking to limit players to a specialization? Is it that they have to pick just one profession out of many? I'm still a newbie in the game. Thanks.

They introduced skill limit (server admin can adjust it) they introduced skill inflation system - when you buy a skill, the price of other skills rise up drasticly (i dont think server owner can adjust this). They lowered the amount of skill points you can get daily, and the good food giving high sp/day is much more expensive to get now. They added punishing hunger bar drop when doing certain things, for example crafting best food would take at least 1 hour for a cook, but when you eat it and cut 1 tree without skills, all your hunger bar will be drained within a second.

etc. etc.

I would immediately buy this game if it was mainly a Minecraft clone – exactly because of that. Currently there's not a single Minecraft clone with high-quality graphics like this one. Having that would be more than enough to justify the price. The complex ecosystem is a welcome add-on that makes it more interesting. Good to know that the meteorite can be disabled. But the skill system mentioned above does not sound good at all. I hope they'll make this optional for server operators.

The skillsystem is an essential part of Eco and never will be made optional, i'm sorry. (We do not aim to be a clone of minecraft either, actually)
