Virtual Desktop "Classic"?

what does that mean? is there gonna be a new one soon?

The classic app on Steam is for older wired PCVR headsets. It is an older program released in 2016. The standalone / wireless app is the new version and works with the standalone headsets like Quest, Pico, XR Elite, etc.

So for a Quest 3 I want the standalone app? I connect via Steam Link as well.

What would you recommend for the Pimax Crystal Light?

Pimax headsets are not supported by Virtual Desktop. You can probably use the classic app on Steam through SteamVR however but be aware that it won’t let you stream VR games wirelessly like the wireless app can on Quest, Pico, etc.

Does vd on steam let you emulate full body trackers or is that only In the stand alone new app

That’s only on Quest so in the standalone app in the Quest store.

Can this be used to run a Quest 2 via link cable? Yes, yes, I know - it's "not for Quest" and all that. The official app just arbitrarily refuses to let my wife play on the computer she's been using for years without issue, and I'm super mad about it. I get that it won't work wirelessly, but at this point her headset can't do PCVR at all.

I freaking HATE Facebook.

You can stream the desktop and video through link, but the image quality will be a lot worst than using the native app on Quest. It is not recommended or supported.
