Webcam support
For people who need to see the keyboard for write or watch whats happening in the room when are using this virtual desktop, you could include webcam support and watch the direct video in a bottom window like real keyboard...or little window to see the room. (One applicatin that use it is CINEVEO. You can watch movies like a cinema but you have a little screen at your side where yo watch your real room through webcam). If you include it i will buy your aplication. Thanks

This would be amazing if when you look down from the monitor there is a window with a live feed of your keyboard.

Thats good for the users that have a vive but what about rift.
Zero Mar 25, 2016 @ 6:13pm
You would have to attach a camera to the rift and then just output it to your desktop. Like this guy did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHAYWeacN4M

Show Chaperone won't necessarily do what you're thinking it will, Boomstick. The Chaperone for the Vive is a colored grid that warns the user when they're approaching the limit of the playspace that they defined during room setup. I would imagine most users may have that disabled since the chaperone grid can become extremely invasive during a seated/standing experience when they've also got a full room setup in use as well. For example, the way my space is set up, the chaperone grid will show up if I'm sitting at my desk since it's actually outside of my play area.

Any input on this, ggodin? Will Virtual Desktop actually be using the camera to support this in a later build, maybe?

Actually thats not exactly true. It also outputs just like a regular camera into the vive. FF to 11:00 minutes. It can be used as a simple camera feed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWproPHhHd0

I was thinking more a fixed camera focused on your keyboard that came up when ever you looked down at it, not one that is attached to your head.

If i can set up 3 monitors as surround i may be able to set up my 4th below the main one with the cam feed on it but i would much rather a built in method.

Hm. Interesting... A feature that I hadn't run across in use yet. :) Still, the question remains of whether or not that's actually what the "Show Chaperone" option is going to do.
Zero Mar 25, 2016 @ 6:33pm
True I only saw that option I havent seen anyone demo it yet but if I had to guess it would show the camera feed.

All this talk of Chaperone is nice but it wont solve the problem for a large number of users that have the rift.

Its totally possible for software to get a feed from a webcam so why not incorpirate that into this with out needing to place it on a desktop?

Maybe the dev has it in future plans. He responds often. Hope he reads this. For now Voice Attack and Show Chaperone would work fine for me.

The Vive will have an advantage here because of the camera. Still working on supporting it though. There's no good solution for the Rift unfortunately. Tracking and placement with a 3rd party camera is just impossible...

Can do this at launch but the cam screen preview of your room will be inside the desktop. Not out of the desktop environment Q_Q would be awesome outside haha so you can play your games in full screen and such. Multi desktop users may have an advantage with this.

As i have already said, aplications can gain acess to a webcam directly so it should be totally possible to have an extra window in the virtual environment similar to the desktops that only displays a live feed from a webcam that is connected to the computer. We can then position this window in the virtual environment in a way that is comfortable to us.
Dragonbait Mar 26, 2016 @ 2:02pm
@sowel I doubt that would work, unless your hands exactly match what you are seeing it would be impossible to type using it, that's the advantage of the Vive camera where it tracks the head and is in an exactly known position and orientation.
