stereoscopic and monoscopic video?
I'm not very knowledgable on this so hopefully I'm making sense. But is this capable of playing both stereoscopic and monoscopic video? I'm assuming both are in 3D and that these terms don't apply to 2D video.

Yes, to play 2D videos you can just use whatever player you normally use on your PC. For 3D videos, do the same and turn on the SBS option (F6 or F7 are the default shortcut keys)

YouTube link pasting to a 3D video does not work intuitively (i.e. does not interpret the metadata correctly), as the function keys mentioned are disabled during playback and the button to change projection is used instead. But this changes the global output to the device, so the user interface is all wacky once the video finishes.
Also, at least by default, the app does not support the MP4 HVEC codec for viewing my own content offline.

Yes, it does support HEVC, you need to install the HEVC video extension from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/hevc-video-extension/9n4wgh0z6vhq

As for pasting of YouTube links, it is meant for 180/360 videos only
