aspect ratios of the virtual monitor?
Hi,
I currently use a 21:9 monitor and i wouldnt want to game at 16:9 ever again, so im hoping that this will have support for that aspect ratio for both virtual monitor mode and the theatre for movies and games.

Thinking about it there is probably no reason why you couldnt have any aspect ratio you want, within reason.

The virtual screen will match your monitor's aspect ratio (or resolution rather) but the theater screen is fixed so you'll get black bars under and above to maintain the aspect ratio.

ok thats good that it matches my monitor but dissapointing that the theatre is at 16:9. Pretty sure all movies now days are at 21:9 and even some blurays of old movies for example i have the original ghostbusters at 21:9. If you cant have a theatre that changes to match then use whats most common.

And for anyone out there who has a 16:9 monitor it kinda sucks that they cant change to a wider format when gaming with this app, you might want to make it customisable, it would make this great app even better.

So, if one sets a custom resolution in the GPU control panel that is higher than the native resolution of your physical monitor, will the HMD display that custom resolution in Virtual Desktop? For instance, I have a 2560x1440 monitor, but I could render a virtual curved display at 5120x2160 as long as the GPU is handling the scaling instead of the monitor's scaler chip?

I'm pretty sure the answer to that is yes FeCuAgPb. That's the principle behind dummy HDMI plugs too. Why don't you give it a shot? There is probably some limit though.

I would, but I've got another month and a half before my Rift arrives. If that doesn't work though, I was planning on buying three UHD/4k Headless Ghost dummy HDMI plugs and HDMI-to-Displayport adapters anyways.

Well I'll go and test it out when I get home then and report back here. :)

ggodin, if I change the resolution of the monitor in virtual desktop, will it immediately update itself in Virtual Desktop? Or do I have to restart the application?

I can confirm that you can set it to any resolution you want, with AMD virtual super resolution it works, can't set it higher than 3200x1800 though. I'm going to try it with CRU.

Awesome! That is still plenty big for productivity work, especially if you can have multiple displays of that size via dummy plugs. What is CRU?
