Ability to move/tilt the screen vertically?
So we can currently change the size, distance, and orientation of the screen, but I dont think there is any way to tilt the screen so that it moves up at an angle. The chair I use is rather leaned back, and for watching movies, it would be great if I could set the screen so that it is above me (same goes for laying down), but so far I can only get it to stay on the same track at eye level. Is there any way to change the vertical orientation/position of the screen at this time, or will it possibly be added in the future? Because watching netflix in bed on a giant screen above me would be great.

Sorry for the long rambling post, but thanks for the help!

I agree, having the ability to adjust height/angle would give the "movie theatre" effect a much more effective boost.

Use the floating option then hit F4. You can place the screen at any angle this way.

Aaah, so that's what "floating" does. I was very confused at what that did, because there's no immediate change. Perhaps put in a tool tip or something to describe what it does to help people out!

There's already a tooltip on the floating option :)

Well. My mistake. Thanks for the help! By far the most involved and helpful dev that I've seen

Almost any angle. Directly overhead is difficult since the rotation angle goes crazy near the zenith.

Suggestion: instead of using the exact gaze point to determine latitude/longitude and thereby orientation, maybe try to constrain the screen horizontal angle to roughly match the headset eye axis, and adjust the longitude to match that?

God knows I spend forever tweaking my physical screens into just the right position. It would be beautiful if there was a power user option somewhere that allowed complete control of screen pitch, yaw, curvature, etc. with maybe the option to load and save those settings with out needing to define a full theme, etc.

I think this might be worth revisiting. When pinning the screen to your face maybe a button in the UI to pin it in place.

Also agree on the problem at the zenith. Some approaches lerp from using local forward vector to using local down vector of the HMD when looking up, and forward to up vector when looking down, to determin which way is forward.

Tilt in the video player would be a nice feature too, and it may not be comfortable to have 180/360 video following your head, so it could still be nice to just have a manual tilt control somewhere.

You can tilt 180/360 videos, simply click the settings button in the Videos tab in the upper left and check “Allow custom orientation” you will then be able to reset orientation in all 3 axis and also tilt the video by holding one grip on your controller

I'm so confused by this. why do vr devs hate tilt so much? Like, im really asking... is it complicated to program? This is a big problem for me so im searching through every vr app out there to find a solution and i keep seeing people asking for the ability to use these headsets in bed or on a couch and developers either not wanting to implement it, or even surprised by the request to begin with. But it gets asked for by a lot of people. This is the first case where it seems like this functionality used to exist and was then removed! I see you went back and added some method of reorienting video, and thats great, but personally i am looking for a way to have the entire display tilted up so i dont have to keep going back down and up doing things. With a keyboard/trackpad I would love to just shift between watching tv and doing homework without needing to do situps in between lol.

Really, this shouldn't be your responsibility tbh. This should be something at the OS level of wmr. But the chances of ms listening to users is probably the biggest longshot.

The functionaility is still there to re-orient at any angle: just check the option named “Allow Rotation” for the desktop and “Allow custom orientation” for 360 videos. When you reset orientation, it will place the screen exactly where you are looking.

I dont understand. are you saying thats not only for when playing videos? I thought that was for the video player only, but not for the actual desktop
piper176 Jan 24, 2019 @ 5:23pm
honestly, i can't get the video player to work anyway. the reorient button positions the screen so that you are right in between 2 halves of the video on your left and right (not sure why it even rrenders the 180 video like that to begin with... surely its a wast of resources to duplicate the 180 video behind the viewer.)

You have to select the right projection for the video at the bottom of the Videos panel (dome, sphere, etc.)
