Oculus 3rd Party Software
I cannot believe I am doing this. I bought your software on Oculus on sale. It seems Oculus has ZERO support. No contact information, no forums, nothing. So here I am on Steam with my hands open begging for help with Oculus. When I install your software it tells me I need some "3rd Party" software installed. When I click on the button it does something and then goes back to telling me I need 3rd party software installed. What is that software? Someone should tell Oculus their app is messed up.

If you have Windows 10, you need at least the Anniversary Update or a more recent version. This is required to install .NET 4.7.1.

Sometimes it’s also anti-viruses that prevent the app from installing correctly on the Oculus Store; try disabling them, installing Virtual Desktop and re-enabling them.

Greetings! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions and help me. I appreciate you and your efforts.

It is a Windows 10 computer. It is specifically for VR so it has no virus shield. Because it is Windows 10 and fully up to date I can assume that I have the most current version of dot net as it is integrated. My Windows version is 1803 and that is well past 1607 so I am sure I have the Anniversary update. So now I am wondering.. what is this mystical 3rd party software it is trying to install? Can I install it manually? Why is it failing?

Not sure why it would be failing then. The 3rd party components should all appear under the Oculus redistributable folder (C:\Program Files\Oculus\Redistributables). You can try to install them manually (by double-clicking them) and see if that solves the issue.

I moved all apps out of that folder. Uninstalled and Reinstalled VD. The only thing that ended up in that folder was "visual-cpp-2010-x86-vcredist_x86". That was successfully installed. So I am still stuck with no idea why Oculus is hung up on this.

thanks, this helps me, i was just about to purchase this on Oculus.. but since its having issues.. Ill stick with steam... is it going on sale for 5.99 on steam anytime soon?

@morbeious Just because this is happening to me does not mean it will happen to you. Buy it on sale on Oculus. If you cannot install it then you can get a refund and get it through steam. If you have the problem, that is helpful to me as it indicates the problem is not with my computer. If you do not have the problem.. GREAT!

The reviews on Oculus store had several people having simular issues.. I'll stick with steam, and wait for eiter a sale, also Windows creative will have Vive/Oculs direct support soon, which means this will be a waste.

It’s an edge case issue where one of the redistributable’s installation is corrupt (seems to happen with ~1% of users on the Oculus Store, which is a lot of people). I’ve notified Oculus about the issue and they are looking into solving it on their side.
