Virtual Desktop

Virtual Desktop

Low FPS
I was excited about Virtual Desktop, but I can't use it. I really, really wanted it to work. Any ideas on why this is performing so poorly?

Problem 1: Can't launch from within Steam. It just... does nothing. I have to find the exe in steamapps/common to get it to launch.

Problem 2: 25fps. Seriously. The judder is terrible. My whole computer slows to a crawl. It's so slow that it starts dropping character input from my keyboard so it starts to look like you're typing on a keyboard with like two key rollover.

So... any ideas, before I give up and return it?

Win 10, GTX 970, i7-3770, 12GB RAM

Uninstall display fusion, f.lux and turn off shadow play. These are usually the apps that conflict with Virtual Desktop

I am having the same problem where games that run at over 180 FPS on my 2560x1600 monitor without the VIve are running supper choppy on the in VD.

Is the game supposed to be showing in both the VD and on my monitor at the same time?

I do not run display fusion, f.lux and or shadow play

I don't have either f.lux or ShadowPlay installed, but when I run New Retro Arcade, I get 18 fps. (I'm using a DK2 with a 780ti).

I don't use any of those apps.

You probably have another app installed that conflicts with Virtual Desktop, because on a 770 here I get 90 fps without issues. ShadowPlay might be enabled by default, you have to make sure it is turned off in the Nvidia GeForce experience panel.

Shadowplay was the culprit; I got a smooth 90 fps after disabiling it.

I had no idea what Shadowplay was or how to disable it at first, so you might want to put that in a FAQ somewhere.

To disable shadowplay: Kill Nvidia Streaming Service in the Task Manager.
To keep it dead: Remove it from startup services. Otherwise it will come back every time you reboot.

I always make sure custom install all Nvidia updates, and only install the Nvidia driver and the Physx driver. Never install GeForce Experience or the rest of that stuff. Maybe the HD Audio? I can't remember now.

thanks for the tip, but I'm still having issues. I disabled the nvidia streaming in the GeForce experience panel but then noticed the streamer services were still running, so disabled those with task manager too. I also made sure Vsync was off in my game (Total War: Warhammer). FPS is perfectly fine on my TV, but crap on my Vive, even when I start turning the graphics down. I can run Elite Dangerous at max everything without any noticeble framedrops, but running 2d games on here is completely jittery.

Running a 980Ti overclocked. Are there any other services I should be looking for? Is there any other way to figure out what might be conflicting on my computer shy of reinstalling windows and installing them all again one by one? I've had the same issues trying to play Warhammer through the Steam theater and the Bigscreen Beta, so I suppose it's possible it's just too demanding of a game, but I really hope not.

Thanks for your help. I love the app overall.
