Wired quest 2 with VD Steam
I am planning to run a wired quest 2 setup. I am wondering, since the VD on the Oculus store is wireless only, will I be able to use the steam version as a replacement instead, since I'm doing wired? Can't find a direct answer for this anywhere. Thanks.

Edit: for anyone that stumbles upon this in the future, you can indeed use VD on steam with your Quest 2, if you are looking to just do desktop things. You will not be able to do games with it, but that doesn't really matter, cause you can just switch to SteamVR when you want to play something, not a big deal.

If I find something inconsistent with this, I will update when I get my Quest 2 setup this weekend, but if not, this is how it is.

No, the app on Steam is not for the Quest; it has a different set of features.

I was answering your question:
“will I be able to use the steam version as a replacement instead”

No, the app on Steam will not let you stream VR games to your Quest, it will let you use your desktop and stream videos but at a lower quality than the native app on Quest.

Right but I'm not asking about games, I only asked about VD versions. I want to know if I can use the Steam version as a replacement to using the Quest version. Which it seems the answer is yes. Even if we consider games within the scope of my question (which is debatable), the answer would still be considered "mostly yes" instead of a straight "no".

I can still use most of the apps functionality with the exception of game streaming, which is hardly an inconvenience because i can easily just launch them with SteamVR instead, if I understand how it all works (which it's possible I don't yet). So I consider that mostly yes, if I'm understanding correctly.

What do you mean by "switch to steam vr" like what is the interface when you plug in the quest with the cable is it still all based off of oculus link or is it its own thing

Why ask the question if you weren't gonna listen to the DEVELOPER of the application
