Virtual Desktop

Virtual Desktop

Cannot paste any youtube video
I was under the impression that this app can play any video. If I try to copy and paste any 3d SBS or analyphic video into the apps screen I get an error message "unable to parse from URL".

Bit disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing some example youtube VR videos. Is this not possible? If it is possible how do I go about it? I was also under the impression that this app can simply play youtube videos directly, ie from the virtual desktop, which is what this app is called.

It should work, except for the new VR180 videos which YouTube isn’t letting us download. Can you link me videos that aren’t working? I’ll try then from here and see what’s going on. Btw regular non-VR videos can just be played in the browser. Just make them full screen, then toggle SBS (press F6) in Virtual Desktop. The paste URL is for 360 videos.

OK thanks for the very quick response. But there's another problem. I tried mirroring the actual desktop and used the rift controller to double click on google shortcut but it wouldn't start. So I closed Virtual Desktop and now Chrome won't start at all! It just doesn't respond. But IE and Opera do so it must be something to do with using the rift controller laser. Any advice?

BTW I cannot send you the example Youtube URLS because I cannot get back into chrome to copy them!

...just to be clear I tried using the rift laser point to double click on google. I suspect this is wrong. When in the ACTUAL virtual Desktop as opposed to your video player overlay, what do I do to use the rift controller to start a desktop app? Thank you.

Just discovered if I choose "lower resolution" in the options the youtube download fails but if I leave that option unticked it downloads fine. Thanks again for your excellent support. Only remaining problem is that video screen is huge and pressing F2 or reducing the screen size slider doesn't make any difference.

The trailer, although a bit old, goes over the basics of the app:

You can change the screen size by holding both grips and extending your arms or by adjusting the screen size slider (that’s when you are in an environment with a floating screen)
