Virtual Desktop

Quest performance
Connecting the Quest with VR Desktop to Steam VR, cause performance issues with most games. Alyx for example can only each 72 fps with low fidelity and SS off. But if I connect with AMD Relive to Steam VR, I can run Alyx with max fidelity and SS 140% still giving me 72 fps. Is there a bug with the current VR Desktop version?

I think it's connected to steamVR,they seem to fight against each other or fight over the same thing?
It's like one instruction goes to VD then the next to steamvr,vd,svr etc

using steamvr beta?

No I did not try SteamVr beta yet, might be worth a try.

Be sure to enable Sliced encoding in the Settings panel in VR; it usually helps with AMD GPUs, also, use driver version 1.20.4 or lower: the latest AMD drivers have a bug that cause performance issues

Sliced encoding actually improved my the performance by 10-15 fps. I will try to downgrade the AMD driver at the weekend to see if this gives similar performance to Relive. I prefer VR Desktop because free locomotion works better with less lag. Beat Saber is very playable on Expert mode!

Also thanks a lot for removing the former required connection to Oculus servers. I am in China and their servers are blocked here. I had to use a VPN each time but they are all not very reliable. Therefore it was always dumb luck to be able to play depending if the VPN works.
Now it is much better because I can play whenever I have time :)

The Oculus Quest headset has a refresh rate of 72hz. That's the limitation of the framerate.

Performance with Virtual desktop is worse then using AMD Revive with Oculus Quest. I tried several games and it is always the same, virtual desktop manages 40-50 frames while Revive runs at 72hz and I can even add SS without getting frame drops.

Edit, if I remember correctly VR desktop has its own SS setting and might need to check if it is set too high and cases the performance issue.

Next update will improve latency with AMD GPUs. I don’t have an ETA yet
