1440p monitor: How to emulate +4k safely for sharper visual desktop environment?

I see some settings in Nvidia about custom resolution but the warning scared me. How do I do this safely?
I've got 1440x1600 Odyssey+ HMD and would like sharper Visual Desktop.

Increasing the resolution of your monitor won’t help. What you need is to match the resolution of your headset. That means 1920x1080 will be the best resolution to use

I just tried 4k. It did not improve the Visual Desktop experience at all lol. Seems the quality from Video/applications stays unchanged. I guess I need a real 4k monitor to improve my Odyssey+ VD sharpness?

I see, why is 1080p the best match for 1440x1600 (2880x1600) instead of other custom resolutions?

Because of the distortion of the lenses. A screen that covers your field of view after distortion will give you the equivalent of a little under 1080P
