Plus while 3D movies are definitely a part of why I wanted to get into the whole VR thing, beyond the native VR games out there, a large proportion was to play 'normal' games in 3D, which given the virtual nature of all of this would seem pretty restricting to make 16:9 a hard requirement. Especially when I'm playing basically every modern game IRL in 2D at 21:9.
Not optimal as in certain situations SBS is the only option, but at least it's something for those with preferences for non-16:9 aspect ratios.
