Benefit to router upgrade?
Hi there.

Firstly, virtual desktop is a great app. I just got a Quest and the desktop and steamVR streaming works great. Really great piece of software.

The VD application within Quest tells me im connected at 400 Mbps and my bitrate is 30.9 Mbps. This is on a Virgin Superhub 3. Would I see any real world benefit to image quality or framerate if i upgrade to a better router? There is nothing else using my 5GHz network, and my PC is connected via gigabit ethernet.

Thanks.

Yes, the Quest supports up to 866 Mbps Wi-Fi speeds which means approximately 80-90 Mbps of video bitrate which looks a lot better than 30 Mbps

Hi thanks for your reply.

I found out how to monitor bitrate whilst inside VR and it jumps up to 80 Mbps when I enter Steam VR, up from the 30 Mbps its running at for the desktop.

So as its jumping up to 80 on a 400 Mbps router, would I still get an improvement if I upgrade to a 866 Mbps router? Would I see bitrates jump up to say 120+ and if so, would that mean a sharper image in games?

No you won’t see better bitrates than 80-90 Mbps. The maximum is 100

How do you monitor video bitrate in VR?

It is shown at the bottom right of the Virtual Desktop menu. Long press the menu button on your left touch controller once you’ve jumped into a VR game to know what bitrate it is using

Cool thank you. I have to say--this is amazing software, and I am super impressed that as a one-man team you are so responsive to questions. I am excited for your success!
