Thanks Anon_4300, AVLR really does work and has 3 perks over VD:
- free of charge;
- does not need network connection requirement as VD;
- open source (so you can know what is it exactly doing);
The only caveat is that there are multiple places where you can get it, but the only working ALVR with Oculus Quest as of 26.03.2020 I've got is here https://github.com/JackD83/ALVR
I've just played Half-Life: Alyx for an hour with it, it's awesome and it does not need any internet connection.
Same as of like 20 minutes. Looks like the servers are down.
If both things (Quest & VD) are on the same local network, then they should just see each other.
Otherwise, we could just start creating single-player games so that they will be depending on their other own 3rd party servers. That will become just a mess where users will have to rely on 3 different servers to be up & running in order to play a single player game on their own local network.
Nobody should follow a bad example.
