Virtual Desktop

Virtual Desktop

Diagnostics? Unable to connect, please try again. GearVR > Internet > Streamer
Through WiFi, GearVR Virtual Desktop works normally. When WiFi is turned off (ie. connection is made through the internet), the only error message is "Unable to connect, please try again.

Oculus Username is m335 .

Have forwarded ports 38810-38840 TCP.

On the PC, "netstat -a -b | grep 38810" shows this.
TCP 192.168.x.x:38810 52.246.255.150:38812 ESTABLISHED

However, none of the local ports actually seem to be listening, reported closed by "nmap 192.168.x.x -p 38810-38840".

This could be due to bandwidth, however, the GearVR app never reports "testing bandwidth" when not using WiFi. Obviously, it would be extremely useful to remotely access a computer through a cellular connected VR headset.

Please, is there any way to get more logging information?

EDIT: Also enabled UPnP, though that does not seem to be used. Additionally tried explicitly adding a rule to windows firewall opening ports 38810-38840 TCP.

There isn’t a way to get more logging information no. It should work by forwarding the ports (or enabling UPnP, which will forward them automatically), if it doesn’t it is most likely a program on your computer blocking the connection or a setting on your router preventing connections.

Well, I have successfully forwarded other ports on my network.

Is the program supposed to listen on port 38810? If nmap would show the port as open, that would help diagnosis.

EDIT: Have successfully done a "netcat" test from an external server on the internet to the machine running "VirtualDesktopStreamer" on port 38811. So that TCP port range is forwarded.

One more thing that might be relevant here - my IPv6 is through a hurricane electric tunnel broker. Generally, ports do work directly through this (no forwarding required). Is it possible Virtual Desktop Streamer is trying to use this in some way, and failing?

I’m only using IPv4. The first port is used to establish the connection, the other 3 are used to stream the desktop. Make sure your Windows Firewall isn’t blocking connections: see here[i.imgur.com]. If you uncheck any of these, a restart of the computer is required for it to take effect.

Those boxes were never checked. Like I said, I can establish a netcat session within the port range from an external server to the MSW machine.

I have the same problem, it works perfect with local network,... but if my GO connect to my phone's wifi, and go through internet to my pc, it won't work!

I enable UPnP, and also try to open port 38810-38840 in my router, but it won't connect.
it seems to have problem by using Phone's wifi function. :(

Edit: I have a Samsung Phone, and I connect Oculus Go to Galaxy Note Edge, then go through internet, but it does NOT work.

I wonder if it is possible android security settings or the cellular provider has something to do with this.

I find out that may be the cellular provider who causes the problem...
because when i try to switch different sim card from different 4G service provider with the same phone, it slove the problem.

Thank you for that report!

Tested from an internet connection at another location. Either the client (not server) requires some port forwards, or the application does not work without both client and server on the same LAN.

Still quite useful of course. Will probably make another attempt with a VPN later.
