Force oculus rift or steam vr api?
Short question. Is there any command/toggle etc to force Virtual desktop to start and use Oculus rift vr api/sdk/service?

I had a oculus rift CV1 and used Virtual desktop just fine. I play a lot of "normal" games using my steam controller just fine. My steam controller depends heavily on the steam overlay to be loaded on the game. This worked fine when using virtual desktop and Oculus rift.

I now own a different vr headset and it loads virtual desktop using steam vr api instead and this locks/blocks the overlay from function on "normal" games. So my steam controller no longer "works". There are workarounds that is not optimal. This headset (Pimax 4k) supports Oculus rift api (tested with a Oculus vr game). So if I could launch virtual desktop and force it to use oculus rift vr api it should work just fine like it used to do.

There’s a command line to force OpenVR (/ForceOpenVR) but not one to force Rift as it will be used if detected first. So why it isn’t being detected is the question. I don’t have a Pimax so can’t test this. One possible solution would be to delete (or rename) the openvr_api.dll found in the installation folder. I haven’t tested this but I think it should work. I don’t have access to a computer atm but try it out and let me know if this solves your issue. I’ll add a /ForceOculus in the next version.

Renaming "openvr_api.dll" should work. It doesn't start/load steam vr then. Now I just need to get this "buggy" headset going in full Oculus mode again. Thanks for the quick reply.

Alright just got Oculus mode working and renaming/deleting "openvr_api.dll" loads up Virtual Desktop window but doesnt actually "work". It wont display anything in the headset.

I am using this Quake 2 VR mod that to my knowledge only works in oculus rift (if you dont use revive wich I do not)

And that game/app works fine in my Pimax 4K and should be running through the oculus rift api. As I cannot run it unless I install oculus rift software along the pimax software.

It will use the Oculus API automatically by default. If it doesn’t it means something isn’t getting detected properly; check the Oculus app

Uhm... i don't know... fresh install of Oculus App... from VD every games will be launched through steamVR, even "The Climb" which is Oculus exclusive.
