Black Screen in VR with enabled HDR mode
Hey,

I got an ASUS PG27U display these days. When I enable HDR mode in Windows 10 Pro the virtual desktop screen becomes completely black in VR. So I have to disable HDR mode while using virtual desktop.

I have an HDR monitor here (different model) and it works correctly. Are you on the latest October update? There might be issues with older versions of Windows.

My Win10 version is 1803 (Build 17134.320). As far as I know, 1809 got canceled by Microsoft due to bugs. I will try it again when 1809 gets released.

I’m on 1809 with Nvidia 416.16, which headset do you have?

I have Nvidia 416.16, too. My Headset is HTC Vive Pro.
Do you also have "HDR and WCG" enabled in windows 10 settings?

i reinstalled win10 pro today and have this issue also, disabling HDR fixes it, but if i turn it back o all i get is a black screen. However i can still see the vr backgrounds, just cant see the screen as it is completely black. I use the HTC Vive if that helps you fix it

What model of monitor do you have kreto? Looks like I’ll have to get one of those to reproduce the issue as it’s working correctly here on my Acer XR382CQK

it a philips 43inch 4k vesa hdr 400 certified monitor, upon further testing switching form the windows hdr toggle and enabling standard hdr or vesa 400 hdr i still get a black screen, but can see the background like the cinema screen, but where the image should be it is black, only way to get picture to show is to turn off hdr in windows

Philips 436M6VBRAB 43" 4K UHD HDR 400 MVA Monitor with Ambiglow is what my monitor is, everything was fine in vr and virtual desktop with the october bugged windows update, however now microsoft has removed that update i don't know if that is the issue or not after my windows reinstall, i went through and reran the redistributables in the virtual desktop folder and still no luck

What your Windows version number? Mine says version 1809 build 17763.55 (in settings->system->about)
kreto Oct 16, 2018 @ 11:48am
windows 10 version 1803

i have fixed the issue, i switched my screen resolution to 1080p with hdr enabled, then switched back to 4k resolution.

The black screen issue with HDR monitors should now be solved in version 1.14 (currently in the Beta branch)

i just tested the beta and it didn't work as i still got the black screen I have narrowed down the issue, it is simply windows scaling i have my 4k hdr monitor set to scale of 150% in windows 10, the only fix that works every time is to drop the the scaling to 100% sign out of windows, then log back in then start steam vr then virtual desktop and the screen will now show in the htc vive with my monitor still having hdr enabled and in windows also, now change the scaling to whatever you want, sign out of windows and log back in and it's fixed.

That’s annoying XD it looks like a Windows bug. I would recommend trying the October update, I know they tweaked some things with HDR monitor support.

my workaround no longer works, since you pushed the new update i now have to turn hdr off to get my desktop to show in my vive. This is really annoying.
