Playback with DXVA 2.0 acceleration appears 3D 180. but switching to Direct3d 11 appears 2D 360?
I'm not sure if this is a glitch or the way its supposed to be:

When I play certain VR 3d video using default DXVA 2.0 Acceleration selected, the video plays with some stutter but still plays with the 3D effect intact.
But when I select Direct3d 11 Acceleration, the same video will play back now perfectly smooth but the 3D effect is no longer there, and the video seems larger and closer up as if it was a Monoscopic 2D 360 video.
The videos I have tried are from different studios too (3840x1920) but they definitely should playback as VR 3D 180 videos.

That’s odd, the 3D effect is associated with the “Enable stereoscopy” Button in the bottom left and not the decoding method. I’ll try to repro.

Have you been able to reproduce ggodin? Something is definitely disabling 3D and forcing only monoscopic video when switching to Direct 3d 11 with certain videos.

ALL videos from these sites have been causing this reproducible issue for me:

StockingsVR
VRhush
DDF Network

No I couldn’t repro. The decoding method doesn’t affect stereoscopy. Did you check whether the 3D glasses toggle was turned off when viewing those videos?

yes the 3d glasses toggle is the first thing I check. The glasses toggle stays on, but video setting switches itself to Monoscopic and 360 settings and only is properly viewable that way under Direct 3d 11.
Once I switch back to DXVA 2.0, 3d returns as I can view the video as intended with SBS and 180 settings, and 3d toggle still stays toggled on no change

Can you email me a link to the videos that do this? I’ll try to reproduce. Send it to me here: guy at vrdesktop.net

Just in case other people encounter this issue: I was able to repro the bug with some specific videos. There appears to be a bug with the underlying Microsoft playback engine not correctly reporting the stereo properties of the video. I will reach out to them for a fix. In the meantime, I recommend sticking to the DXVA decoding option (or the Software one) for SBS videos that are playing incorrectly.

Great to know, thanks ggodin. If you can, can you somehow have it so that videos that have the reporting issue automatically set their decoding to default DXVA decoding, or a way at least that we can choose our preferred default decoding option in a separate menu option?
I know you can choose the decoding, but I believe it resets everytime you restart the app or at least seems randomly chosen

It should default to DXVA but I agree that an option to choose the default would be helpful. Right now if you play a new video it uses whatever you had picked for the last one.

As for detecting broken SBS videos with Direct3D11: I can’t because the videos aren’t being reported as SBS. They are reported as mono 1920x1920 =/

At the very least do you think you would be able to Move or Add the SETTINGS button that allows us to choose decoding onto the Minimized Video playback Window, for quicker easier lag free access?

Im running out of space at the bottom but I’ll see what I can do :P

any updates as I have the exact same issue? For now I'm using software decoding but would like to utilize the 3080 to get the best performance
