Virtual Desktop

Virtual Desktop

VR Content isn't Aligned Correctly
When using the "VIDEOS" button and loading a video (side by side, dome 180 degrees) it used to be that the video would appear at the center of the headset view, but now it just appears as if the headset is being worn like normal (facing forward).

I lay down while using VD sometimes so this doesn't work correctly because the video appears below vision and most of the screen is out of bounds black area. How can I get it like it used to be where the VR video center is the center of view (as if it is using the normal virtual desktop angle). I notice there is no floating option, but the normal virtual desktop screen works fine without it while headset is facing up, at least in the "none" environment, which is what I always used.

Ok. I see that it can be changed with the grip on the controller, but is there anyway to save the orientation?

The floating option was removed, instead you can drag the screen or videos using the grip on the controller. The orientation is now saved per video.

Is there a keyboard or mouse shortcut for this? I don't use controllers with this software.

I’ve tweaked the screen in 1.9.3 to pitch and roll when Allow Rotation is checked. For 360 videos you need controllers to tweak orientation.

I've just updated and now I have to mess around with the controllers to set the orientation for each video, every time. The orientation doesnt save per video with me. I have an external drive with 100s of videos, before I could set the orientation, it would stay in the correct orientation & I could watch the videos. Now, I must use the controllers, I have to set the orientation per video, if I resart VRDesktop, I have to the repeat the process.

While I appreciate the hard work you've done, making it possible to get a more precise position with the controllers, using VRDesktop has become much worse, simply because you have to set the orientation every time. Is there any way to revert to the previous version?

This is my honest feedback, thanks for reading.

Thanks for your feedback, I’ll look into why it isn’t saving the orientation for you. The files are on mapped network drive? It should work if it is mapped to a drive letter like “Z:\path\to\some\file.mp4”

I've made an old version available (version 1.7.2), it will appear under the Betas tab. Feel free to go back to this one.

I prefer not use controllers for 360 videos either. I always had reset orientation mapped to a key and if I had to tweak the angle (in any direction) while watching 360 videos I would just adjust my head slightly and reset...simple and quick. Is there a way to add that functionality back? Even if it has to be a separate new command just for 360 videos (i.e. "360 video reset") bound to a key. Or maybe let us bind keys for up, down, left, right in set increments. Or maybe just add a "legacy" mode for floating screen orientation. I might go back to the old version but I don't want to miss out on updates. Keep up the good work.

I’ll look into adding such a binding specifically for the video player, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the reply, after using VRD for some time, I actually now prefer the new version because it does allow more precise orientation. Ticking the Allow Rotation option really makes a big difference, it’s much quicker to get a good position now!

Re Hardrive: to be clear, the position of videos save every session, eg I open up a vid on D:\360Vid\vid-1, if I change the position of vid-1 close and reopen it it remembers fine. Only when I exit VRD, open VRD again, then play vid-1 does it forget the position. But like I’ve said, now I’ve got used to the controls, it doesn’t take long to get a better position quickly (and I mean better than v1.7.2, so great job!)

Just a bit more feedback, I think my initial reaction wouldn’t have been so bad, if I knew that this was going to have been such a big update. All my Settings, had reset, and I had to figure out, a good screen distance, etc again. I think even a short 2min video showing what’s new would’ve been great - I have just seen the News section where you go over the features, so that was good. Thanks again for making such a great program and also for the very big update! Wishing you all the best!

Ah, the saved orientation of a video is relative to the reset orientation position so every time you start Virtual Desktop, you should set the center position with F4 (or Y button), then all the videos youve tweaked before should be in the right place.

I think this is my issue as well... Its wierd now the way videos start... Its not like it used to be :(

Enable the “Allow Custom Orientation” option in the Videos tab, this will let you orient the video with the reset orientation command like it did previously.
