How to run a game like Battlefield 1???
Hi
I have tried to run BF1, but game is crawling and it is totally unplayable. Noticed that I can see VR home blinking in the background and not too sure on how to remove it...
Is there any way to play games with Virtual Desktop, or should I look for another software?

Please advise

Kind regards

Phil

You absolutely can. Some games will work better than others but what you want to do to minimize the GPU usage is to disable MSAA and Mip Mapping in Virtual Desktop.

Also, you should be on Windows 10 to play games because on Win7, the capture APIs are just gonna bog down your computer no matter how beefy it is.

I’m not sure what you mean by VR Home blinking in the background?

Actually, if I run Virtual Desktop in non overlay mode, I will get just a blank image in the headset once BF1 starts. I have to choose Virtual Desktop as Steam VR overlay to be able to see a virtual monitor showing BF1, but around the monitor, I can see Steam VR Home in the background and the 3 small lines of the icon blinking somewhere in the bottom...
So not too sure on what the correct setup should be. I confirm to be using windows 10 and have disabled within Win10 the game recording features.
Many thanks

Forgot to mention that my native monitor is running at 3440x1440 and BF1 is running smothly on it using an SLI of 1080s. But once I run it in Virtual Desktop, text are somehow difficult to read, probably because of Vive resolution, but game looks more like a slideshow...

Don’t run as an overlay to play games. The overlay is so you can see/use your desktop while you are in other VR games.

Thanks but when I deactivate it, everything is fine till I launch Battlefield. As soon as the game starts, I loose video in the Vive (white background with just lines same as when you start Steam VR, before entering the menu).

I’ll try it out and report back. Which OS are you on?

It runs perfectly here. Make sure the Allow Injection option is Unchecked in Virtual Desktop.
