Anything special I need to do for SBS 3D MKVs?

I've downloaded several smaller 360/180 degree MP4 videos which seem to work fine when clicking "open" and choosing the file in question. However when I try to play one of my 3D movies (MKV) from a network share which are 3D SBS movie, I just get a black screen. Am I missing something? Do videos not play from a network share? I should note this 3D SBS movies play fine in VLC.

For 3D SBS movies you should play them in VLC, make it full screen then use F6 or F7 to toggle SBS mode. The integrated video player is meant to play 180/360 videos only. That being said it should still be able to play them. You might need to install a codec pack (such as the k-lite codec pack, light version is enough). What OS do you have and are you using a laptop?

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm using a custom-built desktop PC (built by me), running Windows 10 x64. I will try your suggestions and report back. Thanks again! The SBS 3D movies in question are x264.. I thought Windows 10 had support for that codec built in. Possibly not though.

It should. Good way to know is to play them in Windows Media Player. If it's black there too it means Windows isn't able to decode them properly (could be some specific encoding parameters that aren't supported). Another thing you can try once you have the codec pack installed and video is still black is to check the "force software decoding" option to bypass windows' built-in decoders.
