Is this game worth it?
How is the replayability? Optimisation? Is it fun and enjoyable for someone who LOVED the book and loves travelling?

It's a steampunk version that mixes in several of Jules Verne's novels, not just 80 Days around the World. You have to go a bit out of the way to find 'em, though. In some ways it's an interactive novel that you write along the way, given that each city on the map - and there are many - hold different adventures and encounters. The markets and potential routes are determined by the 'chapter' seed you have at the start - all routes won't unlock until you've completed the round-trip a few times. It's plenty replayable, if you choose different routes every time - and there are quite a few.

In my mind, this game is a gem, so I'm a bit biased. :-p

It is one of the most, if not the outright most replayable game I've ever played. There is so much content and little detail you can discover or wish to optimise (like Fogg in the book) that you can spend a ridiculous amount of time on it - it almost doesn't worth it for the exact opposite reason of what you implied in the OP; it is overly replayable and you can easily lost yourself in it, if you're not being careful.

It is very enjoyable though; I do love travelling and all the more so since I've played the game - the narrative is very vivid and not only does it give you choices at major events, but at deciding a lot of minor details as well; in fact, most of your choices are minor ones which will then shape your bigger ones in an almost organic way. This means you're constantly bombarded with opportunities to discoves places in detail and the game rewards you generously with a snapshot or a part of the people's lives and surroundings at any particular location.

E. g. I went into a conversation with a total stranger on one of my holidays aboard precisely because it flashed before me that I would do the same in 80 Days and it would usually lead to a great chat - and, sure enough, the real life counterpart led to a fascinating conversation as well: it was with a woman in Dubrovnik who was writing a book about the history of the city and she told me about it while I helped her photograph something in the harbour; a full '80 Days-like' episode but one that unfolded due to my curious questions which I wouldn't have posed had I not played the game. In short, 80 Days taught me to take my chances and to appreciate foreign sights and smells even better; I can only recommend it.

Atticus, that is an awesome story.

Yes, this game has a lot of replayability. Taking new paths across the world, it's like having 4 completely different story builds for one game. And by 4 I mean 40, or 400.

Love travelling? Buy it asap no regrets.

Superb replayability and full of very varying stories.

My personal problem with the game is, that its a little bit TOO novelly for my liking. I dont mind reading, but I wish it also had more unique art (still art would be ok) to beef everything up. Like "King of Dragon Pass" had, which is still the #1 eternal king of this genre.

This is an interactive book with many great stories, but not that much of a game.

and since you've posted this in December the game has gone on sale for $1 on Humble Bundle.

Thanks so much man, I was waiting to see if this game went on sale and it finally did!

If it wasnt for you I likely would'nt have even known - many thanks.

After playing 90 mins of the game so far I can confidently say that if you love the book you will love this game!!

There seem like infinite routes to explore, and every one of your decisions seem to impact the story.

I played non stop for an hour and a half and I only made it into Asia so far, I have had so much fun along the way and highly recommend this game!

I haven't played very long and that's my take on it as well. I like to read, I read books all the time.. always have one I'm reading at any given time. But, when I want to read, I want to read. But when I game, I want to play a game.

But, this game seems very intriguing and I'm loving it so far. I take it as a sign that more in-depth games like this will probably be getting the at least stills, if not outright animation, for complex adventures like this.

I play a lot of different types of games, from point-and-click adventures / RPGs, to hack-n-slash cinematic epics, to FPSs, to driving sims... I like a lot of different types of games.

This game is great, I HIGHLY recommend it, but it could be SO MUCH MORE as stated. And I would think it even more awesome.

I will keep my eyes open (and my email; I signed up) for updates. Thanks!

Will you guys be getting a Steam launch for that one as well?

The more I play 80 Days the better it gets. It's just incredible how much interesting detail is included in what is deceptively a very complex game.

The further I progress in this game the more I learn that:

It's not as simple as it looks..
It's easy to play, but hard to master..
Phileas is a prim prude prone to prostration.. Good Lord, Man, buck up!!! Sheesh.
I'm loving the hellfire outta this!!! :-)
Brav-damn-O!
