Yeah there have been tons but nothing quite as mainstream and iconic as Xenomoroph or Michael Meyers and things of that nature.
Twilight is the biggest mainstream vampire movie in the last 30 years and that wont work. Blade would be cool but hes marvel and not a psycho killer. Most are just more niche then the franchises they have been going with.
Again I think profitability plays a role here. Trust me I agree with you and would love to see more original killers but I don't think that is the route they are taking. They are picking home run characters that are sure to sell.
Also I dont think any killer they release would lose money but Im assuming they go for the ones that are home runs.
I think the bigger question would be, what do you think the power of the vampire should be? Would the werewolf have a power different from the Demogorgon's pounce?

There are tons of different directions that creative people could go with them. You could have some kind of full moon timer where the killer gets a tracking buff or transformation. The sky is the limit.
