Charms - Totem perks for survivors
While bored one day I started thinking about alternate things for the survivors to do with totems. After a few I got the idea for Charm Perks in which Survivors can light their own fires under Totems to gain perks. Keep in mind I didn't think out what the perks would BE, but how they would work.

Charm Totems would have pink fire instead of orange so that one could tell them from a Killer's Hex.

Weak Charms: Charms that can be lit under any totem free of sacrifice. Uses little enough power to be self-sustaining.
Upon spawning with a weak charm, you'll notice it isn't automatically available to you. To activate the perk, you must find a totem, lit or unlit, and instead of cleansing it via Mouse 1, you'll "Charm" it via Mouse 2. It'll take about the time it takes to cleanse a totem, and will offer a minor passive boost to the survivor that lights it. Killer cannot do anything about Weak Charms.
Mainly the Brown and Yellow perks.

Charms: More powerful charms that can be lit under any totem. Normal Charms are too powerful to sustain themselves, thus you must find a host or give the Entity an offering to power it. An offering drains hope from the person lighting the totem by way of intense pain (Character would stick hand in flame and lose a health state).
If Charms are lit by hosting, then the Survivor must find a Killer's Hex Totem and light their Charm under the Hex Totem. Creating a Host Totem increases the Hex's power, making the killer's perk stronger, and turns the flame blue to indicate that it is a host and not a Hex or Charm Totem. Killers and Survivors can break Host Totems, but not Charm Totems.
Mainly the Greens.

Strong Charms: As the name implies, these are the Purples and the Pinks. Too strong to sustain themselves with ONE Offering Totem, or a NORMAL Host. If you wish to light these without the help of a Hex, you must light two Totems and give hope to both. If you give an offering while injured you WILL enter the downed state, so it's best to be healed before you do so. If you want to host the Strong Charm, you'll still be required to give an offering, but only one. Strong Charms boost Hexes more than Normal Charms, but are also the most powerful of the Charms. Killer can put out the candles on Strong Charms, but they are strong enough so that if they are re-lit, they can return to normal. Relighting a Strong Charm MUST be done on the same Totem as it was originally lit.

Like I said, I didn't think of any actual perks for this system, but I think it'd add more depth to the Totem system. You have to think if you want to risk hosting a Hex, or just suffering the damage. Considering it was just an "I'm bored, let's think" idea, it probably has a lot of imbalance and I'd love feedback because I actually do like the idea of this. It was hard to think of how a Killer would counter it, though.

On a side note: If you think of any ideas for perks that could use the system I'd love to hear them.

I actually think it's nice idea :)

with your idea, totem get a lot more depth.

Charm:pink, survivor only, normal and strong can be interacted. up to 5 of them can be lit. has long has only the owner of the perk see the aura then we will be ok.

host:blue, killer and survivor. this mean that if a perk is to strong on a side or another, both can destroy the perk effectively disabling 2-3 perks. strong would make it so if you find the person using said strong charm, the killer can leave it alive so that a totem who has only been extinguish by another survivor can be relit. up to four could be lit(has long has 4 exist)

Hex: run of the mill totem hunting party.(4 max on a single map)

Your idea his interresting. i pray that some of it is added in a few month (6+ becose dev are trying to achive balance and stability ;) )

Idependent from your proposed totem types I must say I really like the idea of making totems "neutral" tools by giving the survivors access to them aswell. Currently a buff to totems means a buff to killers and vice versa. So most maps (e.g. haddonfield) had extremely obvious totems, only leading to a bad match for killers with hex, which again lead to almost no killers using hex.

With the change there will be some good maps for totems and some bad maps for totems, but it would affect both sides.

I just never got the reason for adding totems and only letting one side benefit from them. There's a lot of opportunity with totems as well.
My main thing though is that if killers start to use Hexes more, then Deep Cleansing won't be as much of a pain in the ass.

This is seriously a great concept, but there is one "issue"
Hex perks killer wise are based on high risk high reward. There is high risk high reward for survivor totems, but there are only 5 totems. You would create a struggle between survivors using those perks. (more totems could be added) On the plus side, trying to light totems as survivors would increase match times when looking for totems.

Question: Can the killer destroy the rare, very rare, ultra rare survivor totems (green, purple, pink)?
Demansia Feb 3, 2017 @ 9:27pm
The greens are able to be destroyed by the killer permanently, but that can come at the cost of removing his own perk if it's a Host Totem. It'll be a question of if he wants to deny the survivors a perk that's powerful, at the cost of him losing his boosted perk.

Purples and Pinks can have their flames extinguished (The animation for this being the killer leaning down and extinguishing them via hand without flinching from the pain) by the killer, but the magical power for these perks are so strong that even without the flame there will still be power around. In short, the killer can remove the perks, but the survivors can relight the totems to regain the perks.
I haven't figured out if there'll be a way to permanently remove these as this could potentially lead to an infinite loop of extinguishing and lighting by the killer and survivor.

As for the problem, they could just increase the number of totems to be able to accomodate for every single Hex and Charm perk.

Well i had the idea that survivors should have either totem perks or like you daid their own charms. But i also would like the idea that if i have a perk that chooses another survivor as my obsession as long as that obsession is alive the perk effect is active. Just so i have to ensure that this survivor stays alive as long as possible
