The other names of the Killers?

While reading some of the lore on the official website, as well as some of the flavor text of some perks/items, I stumbled upon the fact that some killers are called by other names.

The Hillbilly is sometimes referred to as The Crooked, or The Crooked Man. I'm guessing this is due to how distorted his spine is, if you ever see his back.

The Wraith is sometimes referred to as The Banshee. I'm not sure why that is.

In one journal entry I read, the Trapper was referred to as 'The Smiling Man'. I'm guessing this is due to his wooden mask that he wears.

Is there story behind these names, or are these just simply leftovers from the game's early development? Honestly, I wish that the Killers had these names instead. The Hillbilly doesn't sound nearly as intimidating as The Crooked Man, in my opinion.

Some of them are the killer's Alpha names. You can read about them on the DbD-wiki. The Trapper's Alpha name was "Chuckles". And I guess the "Crooked Man" and the "Smiling Man" were just words Benedict chose to describe the killers in his journal.
