Theory: Meg’s Mom
I think this theory might be stretching a little, but most theories do anyway so here we go.

TW: Sucide

Ever since I read Meg’s lore page, something about it struck me the wrong way. It’s very obviously vague, with little detail in some areas and a lot in others. She simply just winds up in the Entity’s realm, with nothing leading up to like the others. It just says her mom gets sick and one day she takes a long run in the woods and never comes back. Then I realized something, why did she take a long run in the woods, when she’s the only one taking care of her terminally ill mother? I believe that maybe her mother probably died, and Meg attempted suicide shortly afterwards. It sounds crazy, but let me explain.

So first we learn that Meg drops out of college to care for her mother, who is really sick. This is kind of where it leaves off before Meg goes missing. We then later learn that “One summer’s day, on a long run deep in the woods, Meg vanished.” Why does Meg go to the woods of all places? She could’ve just ran around the street block a couple times. She’s also the only one caring for her mom, as far as we know, so this seems kind of irresponsible to leave her side.

The second evidence you really need to notice the detail. “Search as they did, they never found her body.” This is really strange, being that in other stories, like Jake’s, a search party searches for him, not necessarily looking for a body. This is where things start to add up.

Meg’s mother died shortly before Meg went missing. Whatever illness she had got to her, and as a result leaves Meg depressed. Meg later decides she can’t take it, and goes to the woods to kill herself. Her search party seemingly already guesses she’s dead, and as such doesn’t really consider the possibility of her being alive. They might have known she was suicidal and started looking for a body to recover because they knew she might kill herself. Now The Entity comes into play.

The Entity will take people if they are experiencing extreme anger, sadness, or confusion. The Entity snatched Meg in her moment of weakness, and dropped her in it’s realm. Now I can only guess she’s found her determination, unwilling to die at the hands of another.

This is just a theory, so please don’t take it as fact. But, let me know your thoughts. Do you agree or disagree?

This makes a lot of sense. It adds up when you think about it

this sounds much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ better than the actual lore for her

This actually adds a lot to her character. I've always felt that the original 4 survivors had very weak backstories.

This theory reminds me of fatal frame 5 (project zero) lore

Very impressive

well ♥♥♥♥, I thought this thread would be speculation on megs mom, more specifically, claiming because shes clearly a killer/part entity that her mom was the entity.

I feel like you could have this as the final lore you unlock for Meg in the archives and it'd be the biggest "oh ♥♥♥♥" moment in the game.

Maybe you are right. It would make kinda sense. So her mom just died and joined/turned into the entity. She saw her daughter and couldnt bear to watch her like that. Maybe she was suffering from a mental illness so she thought that this way she and her daughter would always be together.

I think survivors are choosen randomly as some of them have pretty nice life. However all killers were weak and easy to exploit by entity

I hate to be the one to attack a good theory, but Kate has been taken by the Entity without those feelings you described. It is possible that Meg killed herself, but I think we would have more clues (like Jeff's depression, Dwight's life, etc.) that follow this idea. But beside it, your theory make sense.

I really like this idea... this is Meg's backstory in my headcanon now.
