matchmaking and ranking system
Hey everyone,

I'm fairly new to Dead by Daylight and I'm trying to understand how the game's matchmaking works. I'm curious if Dead by Daylight has any sort of skill-based matchmaking or ranking system in place.

Can anyone clarify this for me? Is there a hidden matchmaking rating (MMR) that determines how players are matched, or is it truly random regardless of playtime?

I'd appreciate any insights or explanations on how matchmaking works in Dead by Daylight. Thanks a lot!

There is a hidden MMR system that you cannot see. If I recall - it is based solely on kills, unless they changed it, but I don't think they did..!

Each killer you play will have a different MMR, so if you lose like 5 games on billy for example, he will derank, but if you are popping off and winning games back-to-back with Wraith, then the Wraith's MMR will be higher.

Survivors do NOT have different MMRs, though - since changing from jake to dwight or Meg is essentially just a reskin of your model rather than a new basekit with different powers. So if you die 10 times as dwight your MMR will lower regardless of your survivor being played.

There is also a Ranking system where you see the big funny fancy goofy colored and labeled emblem; but this does NOT affect MMR. It essentially just shows how much you are playing, more or less that given month. so even if you're iridescent 1 (or red #1), that doesn't necessarily mean you are high MMR, just that you've clocked a lot of games in. you "Do" get a chunk of extra bloodpoints though when it resets the 13th of each month, which is nice.

The MMR is also extremely hit or miss. Like, for example a couple of days ago I played against a dude that had 31 hours while I have like ~950, which is insane lololol so don't bank on it being consistent. I mean, I imagine it has influences and is certainly better than nothing; but if you are newer - don't be surprised if you maybe go against some juiced, cracked and bloodthirsty survivors/killers on and off.

I tried to cover as many basics as I could muster up with my two braincells - I hope it gives a bit more insight and clarity! Try not to worry too much about it is my advice and just play for fun, grind some cool perks and understand this game is a hot mess (but a fun one hahaha)

Good luck out there, hope to see you in the fog!!! :thehook:
