I think I saw someone else in another thread say the Castlevania chapter didn’t come to China. If true, that’s pretty depressing.
As for the skins: Personally, I have access to them, but haven’t read/watched any of Ito’s work even though I know a fair amount about it. The only skin in the collection I absolutely love is Kate’s, but until the devs buff solo queue, I won’t be spending real money on survivor skins (except indirectly through premium rift passes).
Even if its on Junji Ito, BHVR agreed with these conditions. Every collab they had was avaliable worldwide, until Castlevania. They region-locked Castlevania for China, and it didn't cause that much backlash, so they probably thought "why not we start region-locking future collaborations?".
The only thing that keeps DBD alive are endless and unpredictable collaborations they have. What developers do? Make something that gives them stable online and makes millions of $ blocked for a not so small amount of countries. Again, they are a global game, and releasing content that is region-locked is ridiculous. Not to mention the trailer of the collection is translated into the languages of countries they have blocked.
It makes it even more ridiculous when you realize that they position themselves as "tolerant". I dont think it's really tolerant to agree with such conditions where you leave half of the fanbase with no new content because they live in a country that mangaka "avoids".
THAT’S the part I don’t understand. Why directly advertise the skins to countries they knew weren’t going to get them (unless it was a last second contract change or something)?
This is bad for future of DBD. What if the most exciting collab in dbd's history (FNAF) gets region-locked too?
People who say its only about cosmetics didn't even try to dive into this hellhole. Seriously, how can you not see a problem in this? They just cut off around half of their playerbase and why? The answer is clear: make money as fast as possible.
Maybe the game is facing a lot of issues on development side, and they just want to make a lot of money before making a leave. Again this comes back to the fact that they didn't make any comments on this. Such a pathetic move from them
Incredibly despicable act on their part and it's the reason why I'm not going to spend any more money on this game.
