ETA: Just another copypaste of two killers powers into one-Legion & Wesker (and the most annoying part of two killers powers at that-plus the obnoxiously loud shrieking almost on par with Demo). Another purely annoying OP killer to face. Yay. /s
No way, no one would buy him. Just a killer, no survivor, no new map (the latter of which you wouldn’t have to buy the killer to access anyway if there were one, but I digress). I’d say $4.99 like all the other solo killer chapters. $5.99 tops if the license was particularly expensive.
I hear he was mainly added because The Ring chapter put this game on the map in Japan and they wanted to keep the momentum going.
Personally, I hope if we get future anime chapters that we get Yoshikage Kira from Jojo Part 4 as a killer and Diavolo from Jojo Part 5 as a Survivor.
That being said, I really don't care about the killer too much. I just care that they murdered my sweet, sweet Xenomorph. My favorite killer, the one I wanted added to the game since Myers was introduced, the only killer I've ever hit a 50 winstreak on, and my absolute favorite horror IP that I've loved since before my age was double digits... is basically being made unplayable. Flame turrets were already really frusterating to deal with but I could manage them because my love for the character triumphs my need to win every single match. But these changes are probably going to make it near impossible to win ANY match; which is the intention- they wanted to bridge the gap between low skill players who would get no value from a turret, and high skill players who would get great value.
So, in the own words of BHVR, turrets could and were used to great effect by survivors who understood the mechanics. But instead of relying on their players to actually get better at the game themselves, they are simply buffing the turrets so they take less skill, strategy, and brain power to use- which they really didn't to begin with, low level survivors just... I dunno, couldn't understand the simple concept of trapping a loop. It's wasn't enough that Xenomorph is the only killer in the game that inherently gives survivors a way to completely remove their power and make them an M1 killer that is objectively worse than Trapper. The only killer. In the game. With a mechanic like that. And it wasn't enough.
So, Xenomorph players, a killer with a 1.5% pickrate (98.5% of matches weren't xenomorph) is being nerfed into the ground, and Xeno players are being punished because survivors are bad. That is in BHVR's own words. That's just crazy to me. I really dislike the design philosophy behind that; it's essentially saying "You don't actually have to get better, we'll just make it easier for you." It's the death of skill expression. It just hurts having my favorite killer nerfed for such an awful reason...
Your post brings up one issue I've had with DBD for like, 9 years now, which is the absolute disregard of real "Monster", "Cryptid", and "Creature" type killers. 90% of the killers in the game are "Crazy guy", "Crazy guy with super powers", or "Ghost". Off the top of my head there are only four killers that fit the "Monster" category out of 35; Demogorgon, Dredge, Xenomorph, Unknown. Of course the first three are my highest rep and favorite killers, because of that simple trait. I much prefer playing as a creature or monster than I do just some guy. Or just some guys ghost.
Where's a necromorph- Regenerator anyone? Safehead from Evil Within? A westernized Wendigo (more interesting and cool design than normal wendigo, which are just emaciated humans with super strength). Volatiles from dying light are an excellent idea. Resident Evil had a whole bunch of monsters to choose from- while I think Nemesis makes sense from a marketing standpoint, he is essentially a giant Frankenstein. Would have liked any of the more mutated, less identifiable "human" creatures.
I think the primary issue is that BHVR mostly pulls licenses from popular horror movies and shows, of which have gotten the most popular through human like killers. Jason, Myers, Freddy Krueger- even more niche characters like Pinhead still look human. The Xenomorph was an absolute godsend. But the point is that BHVR doesn't really like using Video Game characters unless they are STUPID popular, and they have to be wayyyy more culturally known than the movies they pull from. The only reason a relatively recent VG horror icon is being brought to the game (Freaky Fazbear) is because that series has become more than just a video game, and most of DBD's playerbase probably grew up during it's explosion into the mainstream.
I'd kill for a Wendigo, or Skin Walker, or something like that. The Unknown just looks... goofy, to me. Dawg literally has a barber and hair grease. That thing looks like it would topple over if I sneezed in it's direction. I dunno.
tell me you havent watched tokyo ghoul without tellling me you havent watched tokyo ghoul...
also, chapter is absolutely amazing, keep it up BHVR
No problem with anime being brought into DBD, I think there's a lot of potential and it can attract more players, but I really dislike this killer's looks and it's game-play. Not sure how much they can change from now until release.
I'll give it a miss
