Why do people play survivor?
Genuine question, since I tried playing survivor for the first time today and it was miserable. I felt like I was contributing nothing to the game, it was ridiculously stressful, and to top it all off someone decided that they'd insult me in the endgame chat.

Ever since I've downloaded this game (which was less than a month ago, so I'm pretty new), I've basically excursively played killer, and I've mostly enjoyed it assuming I'm not getting obliterated by survivors genrushing.

But yeah. I don't see the appeal. Someone who actually enjoys survivor please explain to me why, bcause I don't get it.

Solo q experience. Unless you somehow get a lot of escapes and raise your mmr, your survivor life is going to be the most miserable experience ever. That's why there is so many swf, even in duo it becomes so much better.

It's an endless cycle. You play survivor, you suffer because you are solo and killer wipes the floor with you. You go killer and face the most insane survivors(most of the time swf) and just suffer unless you are one on the top tiers. There is pretty much never something in between. You suffer or you don't
I'm a survivor mainly. Solo. If you don't do generators, don't unhook people and do 'your stuff' all the game long, they are going to insult you and it's 'normal' because the win is mostly due to a team work.
That sayd.. I enjoy playing survivor because I often encounter other solos and we collaborate together. There is only a thing that you should do as a survivor: play the game (don't spend your time inside the closets / hiding / doing just unactive totems and so on. Participate.
I am a surv main and playing this game mostly as a survivor. Im playing since 2019 and i can tell that back then playing as a survivor was really fun. But the changes they have made in the update when the aot (attack on titans) skins came out (i dont remember when it was, i just remember that they released these skins in that update :D) completely ruined the gameplay on survivors imo. They nerfed every single "meta" perks that was the funniest and wasnt even that strong. They started to decrease the size of the maps so killers can control the gens more comfy. And also most of the killer mains (not all of them) r sweaty af. They playing like if they dont get 4k they will die or smth like that. Anyway you can still enjoy playing survivor only if you playing with friends. thats why i dont play solo now
btw hope you will have fun playing dbd. Welcome to the community ;)

sry for bad english, it's not my first language

I don’t anymore. Used to solo queue more than I played killer. Only actually enjoyed solo queue once in a blue moon (usually because I had a fun/fair killer-rare-or a very good solo team-even rarer). With OP PTW Ghoul ruining killer queues, I uninstalled the game yesterday.

If u play solo u should really use BOND, it's one of Dwight's perk. It will give you LOTS of information (find mates doing gens, find someone to heal you, get to know where the killer is if they are chasing someone who is within 36 meters from you, help someone who is injured etc).

It's fun trying to survive a match with 3 other people :dealerrizz: Dunno about SWF, but I'm sure it's more fun to group up instead of randoms

Ohhh good to know! I'll check it out

For people that main Killer, such as myself, I think that it's for a change of pace. You have to be thinking with the polar opposite mindset of a Killer, which makes it feel like a fresh experience in a way. If you manage to escape chase, waste the Killer's time, or get a good bit of gen progress done, it'll feel satisfying, especially if you're still learning. Try to put as much of the knowledge you've gained playing as Killer into playing as Survivor, such as gen locations or strong loops, or to try and copy what the other Survivors you've gone up against have done. How do they make you whiff? How do they play loops? Do they stick to gens like their life depends on it, or do they hide at the slightest notice that you're nearby?
That is pretty much all that you can do, besides just get better with Survivor, and run decent perks. I have no idea if this will help at all, but it's what I recommend.
Once you escape the sweat mentality trap of feeling bad for dying early, or sucking at looping is when survivor really starts to become fun and rewarding. Your first 100 games, you're going to suck ass. But you will get better with every game. I started with learning stealth/gens, try and get at least 1 gen done each game, then 2, 3 and so on.

After I got good at that I got into surviving chases (the funnest part). Equip windows of opportunity and just haul ass to every pallet and learn how to stun killer, try to do it for as long as you can until you die. Queue into next game, repeat. No need to stress, just laugh, have fun. This is the way.

People crying in chat because you did bad? This is the internet dude, people are going to cry and complain, nothing you can do about it. Just pity and laugh at them, keep moving forward.

For the INTENSE LOOPING ACTION:

...seriously, though, I do like good chases, and I like seeing what I can do with what I've got.

Honestly? With the advantages survivors have I perfer it. The thing that makes the Survivor experience miserable is, humorously, the other survivors. And I have played enough killer to be completely desensitized to that.

Define "advantages" survivors have
Heyo, survivor main here. But I think it's important to play both sides to improve, so I also play Killer from time to time. But overall, I prefer survivor gameplay. I love chases (and as a Killer, you usually don't have the time to really engage in a chase with good survivors :CartonSmile1:).

I enjoy perfecting my movement, maximizing each tile and loop, and even playing a bit "greedy" to see how much I can get out of bad loops or how long I can extend a short loop. I try to get the most out of every tile before giving up the pallet, etc. Most of the time, I know exactly where I messed up when I go down, unless it's due to bad ping or server issues. But mostly I often make dumb risky plays because of greed... xD

As a killer, you're always relying on the survivors' mistakes and don't have time to engage in chases most of the time... Sure, the "m1 press at the gen" part as survivor is boring, but chasing as a survivor is way more fun for me than as killer. A lot of killers these days also have many anti-chase abilities, which are hard to counter, that keeps things exciting and challengin`.. :heartgr:
The problem with DBD is: when you play killer efficiently, it’s boring. You don’t have time for chases. You’re just constantly trying to maintain pressure, and when you play a weaker killer against a good team, you might have to play kinda "dirty" sometimes.

As a survivor, when you play efficiently, it’s also boring.
Just W-shift and pre-drop everything. If everyone in the survivor group plays like that and the killer doesn’t get lucky with a snowball, it’s just as boring. A lot of killers can’t do much about it, like @Xalcen says, your biggest "enemy" are the other survivors then..

As a survivor, you can afford to make more "mistakes" and even do dumb, risky plays.

And ultra-efficient chasing" is also often just boring. I love making risky plays here and there. (only loop the save tiles, early drop everything - its boring) ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7bYMRIniYE <- Here. (this is how i love to play as surv) I just love the thrill of risky plays too much. :D Even when the Killer has a one-shot and I run to a bad edge tile. Especially when the killer has a one-shot, they’ll totally think you’ll throw the pallet and end up respecting it. Always funny if you don’t drop it then and how often this works xD (If they hadn't respected it and I hadn't expected "she's definitely dropping the pallet," If the Killer hadn’t respected the pallet at certain points, I would’ve been dead. xD

Sure, it’s inefficient, Often just dumb. and you offten go down a lot when you try stuff like that. But it’s fun! :60ssharikov: As a Survivor, you can get away with dumb, risky plays way more than as a Killer. Another reason why I prefer Survivor.

edit:

as a survivor, you kinda have the stronger "tools" and way more "toys" to play with :
