DBD Xbox controller issue (skill checks)

DBD skill check issue
When I click the left button for a skill check, it doesn't register until after I fail the skill check. Sometimes it works if I hit it before the dial reaches the are for the skill check.

I'm using an Xbox controller

That's input lag. If you're playing wireless, then switch to a wire. That can drastically reduce the input lag. It can also be caused by normal lag, which is either your internet connection or a server-side issue. Check your ping during the game. It can also be a mixture of both :).
Playing via Bluetooth or anything similar is inferior in most cases.

I'm glad you said most cases. Allegedly the PS5 Dualsense has lower latency over BT than wired. (I'm sure none of you care, I just like sharing that very weird fact I learned last month)

Are you able to hit skillchecks if you use the keyboard? If it's just the controller, it may be a wired vs. wireless thing, but if you're getting lag on both the controller and the keyboard, your refresh rate on your monitor may be set too low. I'm only suggesting that because I had the same problem the first few times I played DbD and that's what was causing it for me (I'd just switched to a new monitor and hadn't checked the settings XD).

Thanks for this info. I'll check my monitor. I did try playing on the keyboard, but found it awkward.

Thanks. Wired did seem to improve the issue. There still seemed to be a lag, but that could be from my monitor (as mentioned by asa0199).
