Is the trapper actually decent?
I've been messing around with him and played a few games against him and simply put, isn't the idea that you put pretty obvious traps in front of good pallets and strong loops a really good advantage? Even if a high level SWF team are communicating where your traps are, you can shut down a lot of loops in a small area, and if you have someone hooked in that area you can create an entire dead zone

Sure they can disable them but isn't the idea that you can just outright deny strong loops pretty great? I was being chased by a trapper yesterday and was looking at every pallet I was passing saying 'damn' when I saw he trapped them so he led me on a much longer chase where I could only hold W

Of course even the best players can get caught in them and you have all the addons for instant downs, deep wounds, etc, but isn't the idea of just locking down entire loops and good pallets in 1/4 of the map really good?

I hate the fact that I pretty much have to run CI at the start but I've had fun with traps that inflict deep wounds, mangle and adding perks that slow healing making it incredibly easy to track down survivors later on

My MMR isn't high enough to go up against good SWFS yet but I'm just wondering if he is viable at high level play?

The problem with trapper is the slow set up where he has to walk to each trap to grab and set it. Yes you can deny lots of loops but by the time you got a decent area trapped 3 gens have already popped since you cant place traps strategically and chase at the same time
eh why not (Banned) Apr 11, 2024 @ 4:49am
Trapper can be good, not great. IMO he's trash tier unless you run iri stone and honing stone, then he's ok-ish. Depends on the team. If they are a good team they're going to be disabling those traps left and right, but you'll catch a couple of them off-guard with iri stone. If they don't actively try to counter him, you can destroy people easily by locking down a 3-gen even without perks.

But if you have even 1 person that is going around disabling traps chances are 1/3 to half your traps are going to be disarmed.

Trapper can put in some solid work - but definitely not high tier. He is super fun to play and nothing is quite as satisfying as the person you chase walking into your trap.

There are some very specific - survivor guided circumstances where Trapper becomes a demon but that will pretty much never happen with generally good survivors.

Still a strong, well designed killer - just not compared to what many others can do.

One of the weakest killers. Condemned by Behaviour to stay a beginner killer, therefore no significant buffs. You have to play some levels above the survivors for a slight chance to win. But when you win, it feels like an achievement.
he's op on some maps (midwich/RPD), average on other indoor maps, weak on every outdoor map. if you bring an offering every time you play him you can position yourself to having some good matchups and if you get him to level 100 you can literally bring the best addons every single time you play him.

so he's really just as strong as you want him to be and because of this i consider him to be at least an average killer.

As a Trapper main. He is garbage.. He takes way too long to setup and relies far too heavily on Survivors messing up rather than himself playing well. Majority of the time, if a Trapper starts to snowball and win, it was a Survivor screwing up and not the Trapper being "skilled". Let him start with all of his traps damnit..

There are fun builds and fun maps for him.

Lery's with a hex build is a nightmare and survivors will hate you... just trap in front of the totems.

Trap more unexpected places instead of just in front of windows and pallets as well and you'll really catch people off guard. One of my favorites is trapping a corner of the killer shack.

trapper is the strongest killer in the game if:
you get a shack basement hook and you preemptively trapped all exits with 2 traps

you proxy camp until theyre forced to go get the survivor in which it turns a 1k into a 2k

you can also force the survivor to unhook by facecamping, hit them off hook and watch them run upstairs to realize theres no way out

Yeah I’m getting the picture he’s more about punishing stupid mistakes than skill based
Danzan Apr 11, 2024 @ 9:58am
Yes very decent, randoms always dies against him, he is super op against them and always camps basetment unfortunatly

Trappers is quite a decent, but obviously in today as a starting Killer. Good map, bad team and some nasty add-ons can turn the table. I encoutered multiple Trapper who simply trash the team and not with traps!

My personal strategy is put traps in random location, where palyers didn't expect a trap or couldn't see them, especially when you chase them. Grab one survivor, take him/her to the basement and set a trap every corner! The stairs, the doors, the vaults. Sometimes works, sometimes all survivor just avoid them all. XD

I like using the addon that injures survivors when they disable them. Also the ones that let you set them up fast so its easy to do mid-chase, no big hassle to rearm etc. I love playing as him, its just so satisfying when you hear that trap trigger and see the aura of the survivor struggling with it. Maybe not the strongest killer for me but he is definitely fun and can be pretty strong.

And yeah its a good idea to trap unexpected areas instead of just pallets and windows

You know, after thinking about it and reading the replies, in reality you aren’t going to get level 100 swfs every game who coordinate perfectly. In a regular public match you are going to fool a lot of people with your traps and he is very fun as any time someone ever steps on one it makes me laugh

In a perfect competitive matchup he’s probably very low but in the 85% of games where you aren’t against people who are perfect 2000 hour players on comms he’s a good laugh to play and I’ve had fun mixing up my builds with him

I think I was just overthinking it as I’m never going to play in a tournament level and he is enjoyable to play, I think just the lengthy setup and annoyance at none of your traps going off can be disheartening but when they start popping off the game can snowball when they panic to save and bumble into other traps
