How many shards does it take?
I’m a cheapskate, so I’m trying to spend as little money on the game as possible. In planing on buying the licensed characters during a sale, but how many shards will it take to purchase every non licensed character, and how much time will it take? I’ve been playing for about a month, but only had the shards to buy 1 character. Is there some special technique to get maximum shards?

1- Get shards by redeeming codes;
2- Playing during times when there is bonus XP events;
3- Playing a lot; and
4- Not disconnecting from matches.

These were off the top of my head.

153'000 shards total for every Non-DLC killers
171'000 for every non-DLC survivor.

So 324'000 in total so far. Keep in mind every newly released survivor or Killer that isnt DLC will also cost 9k shards.

These numbers are not correct. I counted 85.5K shards for every original killer and 94.5K shards for every original survivor at current prices and that's assuming no sales (vast majority are 50% off right now and the rest of the original killers/survivors are 30% off)

Older characters are now sold in packs, aren't shard prices reduced as well?
Check on anniversaries for shard sales, maybe halloween if they feel generous.
The first week of rifts also used to have shard discounts, I dont think so anymore if they focus on the latest characters now

have they dropped shard cost from the 9k? i bought most of the killers with auric cells before they did even the bundles, i bought the ultimate edition as i bought this game, which gave me a heap load of original content alredy.

And i wasnt counting events since those are not the general prices.

Many of them are on sale for like 2200 right now. In fact, Sable was the only survivor I noticed was 9k normally.

They have halved the price of all original content up to Knight/Vittorio I believe.

Sable should be on sale for 6300 Shards at the moment but normally 9000.

Yeah, I only specified original because I couldn't remember the sale price, but thank you.

Getting the full roster of 21 non-licensed killers for no extra money, but just as a consequence of playing the game? Yes, that takes awhile. If you're not keeping the game running by paying for things, you're helping keep the game running by being a participant in the games.

Well that's practically free, that's the price of a single perk on the shrine, or 1/10 the price of a skin.
They've halved the base prices, which was the cheapest you could get with rare sales, but also kept the all time high 50% sales. Pretty wild to be in a short time span, get everything you can at that price

Im not saying its wrong or anything. I dont care since i bought the ultimate version back then, which made me unlock much of the content in 1 go. And then i bought other DLCs month after month. But trying to get everything for free would certainly not be for me.

Yeah, fair enough, but it's not like you'll run out of characters to play or challenges to do any time soon. It's just a reward for playing the game. Granted, if your time is worth more than the money, I can understand. That said, the fun is playing the game. They're practically paying you do do so. It's not like it's 40 hours to unlock a character or something.
