a discussion about techs, please be civil
so, we all know blights hug tech is being fixed, but i've been wondering, what is a tech exactly ?

is it using vast amounts of game sense, skill and knowledge of the game to do things you wouldn't expect ?

or usage of an exploit ?

and how does one explain which is skill expression and which is an exploit ?, chucky can do the hug tech, so can wesker to a degree, so how come its bad for blight, if those two can do it ?

lets discuss and come to wonderful conclusions, remember, keep. it. civil.

Tech means technique, and that's what it is. A skill. Honestly you could call any action in the game a tech if you wanted to, but most people want to use it for specific techniques, like hug tech, vault tech, fov tech, etc.

As for whether it's an exploit or not, that depends on what the tech is plus the intent of the devs. I think as long as the tech doesn't break any rules of the game, it's not an exploit. The devs have final say, of course.

Personally I like that there are techs in the game. It shows ingenuity of the players.

exactly, and i'm all for ingenuity, it can lead to interesting builds, which is why i'm rather against the removal of certain techs that reveal said ingenuity and skill

For blight its not intended and give anti loop to his power when the killer should not really have anti loop but he should catch up in between loop.

Chucky its intended because the slide end when he go for the hit and he dont hit automatically when he hit a wall or structure.

For wesker its not intended and it will probably be fix but just remember it took 2 year for bhvr to fix blight collision after they say it was not intended so its probably be 2 year after they confirm wesker tech is not intended.

Let me sum up how the norm of (majority) this community sees. When it is on survivor, it is called tech. When it is on killer, it is called exploit. Of course, ultimately it is decided by BHVR, if they heard enough voice from community.

imo, techs are ways of "abusing" game aspects that are not intended to work the way you use them.
The line between techs and exploits for me would be:
techs are forms of skill expression in abusing a specific non-intended mechanic that still have basic cameplay counters.
Exploits are forms of skill or not skill expression that have literally 0 basic gameplay counters and can lead to one side having unfair advantage over other and/or stalling the match.
So imo, all techs that are currently in the game are completely okay (don't remove hugtech and V1 tech pls)

DbD is not the only game where you have bugs abused in a skill expression form.
Take CS games for example, bhopping and surfing were never intended game mechanics, but Valve never wanted to remove those because they require skill and are very fun.

Basically if you go by the community's definition of a tech, everything is a tech, even crouching. If you go by BHVR's definition, only things clearly unintended such as Wesker gaining momentum after hitting a wall, Blight hug tech, and the Oni 180 are techs.

It should be common sense but yeah Chucky hug tech isn't a tech, it's intended otherwise Chucky wouldn't slide off terrain.

This entire topic is pointless. It's both an exploit, because it's not intended, and a skill because you have to learn it. You already know these things, so does everyone else - again, pointless. There's nothing to add to this discussion.
sigh, i am going to have to ask you to leave, you are being unhelpful and are adding nothing to this discussion

by that logic the hillbilly being able to sort of slide against things can be seen as an exploit, without things like this to give ingenuity a chance, most will probably give up on certain killers quite fast, and i am all for ingenuity and skill expression, sometimes things work out on there own with time

this...is painfully accurate, most things like this that can give a killer an advantage from there own skill or such might often get called exploits, yet more often then not survivors have similar things, but they are not given the same treatment

Basically you're a killer main who's salty that techs are being removed, what are some techs that survivors can do? Usually an actual tech is found when a killer, who involves mechanical skill, has a way to break their power, by raising the FPS, looking up/down really fast, or something else.

Window tech, the vault pallet to force killer to pick up into a flashlight blind tech, are two that I personally know of. Never really bothered to learn techs or their names, so that's all I can provide.

It's a casual game but only for killers hold W+m1 ez win, tech is not skill, it's an exploit to gain advantage!
